Default Why does my washing machine stink?

Hi all

Got a zanussi washing machine, its about 4 months old. Basically, its stinking the house out! Just smells of manky water inside the drum and in the powder tray bit.

There was some standing water inside the seal so i've cleaned all that out but it still stinks! It only really gets used at the weekend, where it does about 4 washes, nothing particularly dirty, although I did put my trainers in it the other day

Anyone know what can be done with it?

Thanks

Rich

Do a 60 degree or hot wash with a couple of cups of white vinegar. If you dont have white vinegar then put a tiny bit of bleach in.

Obviously do it as an empty load.

Clear the seal on the door too of any water that has collected. 4 month old washing machine shouldn't really need the filter checking surely?

Do you leave the door open after a wash to allow it to dry? if you keep the door shut it will start to stink...

thanks for the replies, forgot to mention, I have checked the filter, and its all clean in there. I've been reading through the manual and it says use biological powder on a hot wash, so will give that a go!

Its simply not getting used enough.

Split the washing up to run mid week and weekends if you can.

It will clear itself.

2 things to do,do a hot wash 90oC once a month,if u got a dishwasher, chuck 2 tablets init and run a 60oC wash and use soda crystals there cheap and work well!
next thing is to check the drain hose, does it go to ur sink?if it doing straight down to the washer?if it is chances are wen u put water down ya sink, its back flushing into ur washer,

thanks again for he replies! I walked up to the local to get some bio powder and a bit of calgon for good measure. Went up in my t-shirt as it was warm and quite pleasant, when I waalked out the shop it was cunting down, so got fooking soaked

Just put it on at the 95 degree 'service wash' with the bio powder and the calgon, so hopefully that should sort it!

I have tried to solve my incontinence problem, I guess my mother could never be bothered to potty train me

Will let you know how it goes!

Our washer is used 2-3 times a day and it also stinks

Though we do leave the door shut but i might start leaving it open when im not using it see if it helps.

Do a 60 degree wash once a week as well but still doesnt get rid of it

If your using it daily and it still does it your running too low temperature washes and not using enough powder / liquid.

Its the bacteria forming on the inside of the drum that is the smell.

An increase in temp and powder will wash away / disolve the bacteria.

We had a Zanussi, nice machine, ended up ditching it because it wouldnt drain the water out, so thought it was fooked, when plumbing in the new washing machine discovered the drain was blocked and it fookin reeeked

Make sure where it empties is clean too
