I'm a ship's engineer for those who don't know/care... in 2004/5 my regular ship was the RFA Fort Austin. Which I liked, mainly because it had a huge bar, and was generally a good ship to fix shit on as it was all good kit and well laid out.

Then ship was the deployed to the Arabian gulf. Everyone was really happy about this, as this means tax days. And if you get 183 tax days, you get your income tax refunded to you.... I wasn't soo happy because I was about to be transferred to the RFA Diligence... Now I didn't mind too much as Diligence, while being a total crock of shit, was at least UMS(Unmanned Machinery Spaces) meaning no watchkeeping....

So, I join it, fix it. Did a re-fit in it. Generally worked my ass off on the damn thing with everyone else to get it up to spec.

So, they start talking about using it to train the Iraqi navy. Sounds ace we say. Taaaaaxxxx days..... So, what happens?

Rab is transferred to the RFA Fort George... And I spend most of my time in the UK with it, fixing it big style, doing the ruddy re-fit etc etc... Now, the Fort George is aparrently doing something funky now she's coming out of re-fit. TAx days I hear you say?

Nope...



I've just been transferred back to Diligence to sit alongside in the basin at HMNB Portsmouth........................


I'm starting to think I've fucked someone off..... And as punishment, I'm not being allowed a tax year
