Default trees and planning permisions

any tree types in here?

i asked a question ages ago and can't find the answer so i'll ask again

got a tree int he back garden, one of them things tha drops pine cones so i'm assuming it's a pine tree?
yes?
no?
see where i'm going here?

right, i want to start doing an extension so the tre needs to go, but it's about 20 foot tall so the first thing is, chopping it down will do what to the ground? dry it up and make a big hole?

second, i've been told from different peole that i need between 1 and 3 metres worth of footings deep after the trees gone, some say i don't need to get rid of the roots and some say everythings got to go

so, what's what and who's who?

are they arberologists or soemthng them tree seurgeons?

Ring your local Council, most have an arboriculturist/Tree Officer. Check its not preserved or your in a conservation area before you cut it down. Twenty feet isn't a big tree, as for foundations 1m should be enough unless your on heavy clay soil, then 1.5-2m. Finally check with the planning dept you may need planning permission for the extension. As for the stump dig it out.

got the planning permission for a 15 foot extension, but the tree is only 13 feet away from the house

i'll give them a bell and see what they say, we've already ripped down to other trees in the garden so i'm not sure about it being conversed or not, but it does provide decent shade and blocks the sight line for nosey neighbours
