And just to add to the vanos issues / myths / stories etc - mine had 3 in 2 years of ownership The first got it to just over 50K and was replaced by BMW as it was getting a 'little' noisey. The second one was done after the cam snapped and did less than 20 miles - it was noisey when fitted by BMW . The third was OK and still on the car when sold

you couldn't find a good one for 8k? 8K is out of my budget as im looking for one too but i've seen some excellent examples for that much! what was wrong with the 8k cars? im looking at a 5.5k one and its a very good example, took a bit of time finding one but it has all the things to make it a goodun!
have to admit tho bmw owners have a problem with maintaining their cars and they end up becoming loose and flimsy!

the digital one is just the control mechanism, it works the same as the dial controls. and its not an evo/nonevo thing, its just age related (obviously evos are newer tho)

Well I had a mint Dakar one a few trs ago,brother wanted an Estoril one and could we fuck find one that had mint grey carpet and mint silver leatherr,it also had to bea convertible and we had issues finding some with dodgy hoods,,gave up in the end TBH as none were as good as the one i had before

The 3.0 is 286bhp. Most Evo's only just make 300bhp also.

They often make over the believed 286 anyway.
Handbooks are wrong for the 3.0 and 3.2, leads to the wrong figures quoted everywhere, and the ensueing argument about it no doubt...

i have had both a 3litre and a 3.2 my standard 3.2 made 312bhp on the rollers on a hot day. out of the 2 cars i would deffinately have the evo again i prefered the 6 speed box, only thing i didnt like about my evo was the grey dash and carpets and the clutch.
for 3k you will be lucky to find a nice coupe m3 more than likely it will be a dog shit one with rusty arches, full cloth and about a million miles

evo 0-60 5.3seconds 3.0 5.6 seconds
mine has done a 5.6 with 150k on it. that equated to a 2.1 second 60ft at york.

I had my 43000 mile, one owner, full dealer history, original Schnitzer goodies EVO on ebay last week and the best offer i got for it was £5k. People dont seem to want to pay the extra for a top car.

3 litre m3's aren't restricted to 155 and will do about 162mph when they hit the limiter in 5th, m3 evo's will do the same in 5th but put it in 6th and the 155 limiter will come in to play, de-restricted a evo will do about 175 or so i would guess

Evo's and 3.0's have same gearing but different final drive/diff, so can't compare 5th in each as same revs-mph.
175 no way mate, not from 300ish bhp.
Bryan - Sure you're right, something I read once, found it interesting whether accurate or not

ive had people quote 170mph for the evo before. based on the 163 my 290bhp car pulled without running out of steam i'm not doubting a 170+mph from a more powerful one

It's only 20bhp Jim, if that as will be at lower revs than your 163 I'd think which would be at peak power as opposed to Evo slightly off.
Not driven one at 160+ to see the revs it pulls.
