Default Slipping out of gear...Vivaro!

I went to look at a vauxhall vivaro earlier and the guy said it slips out of 3rd sometimes and is diffucult when downchanging into third(doesent grind or anything, just stiff to engage). He said his mechanic said its just a worn linkage cable does that sound about right?

Help much appreciated.

yes fella!they do suffer from a linkage problem but that dont cause that problem!early vivaros/movanos tend to eat gear boxes as the bearing end big, strong enough!later ones still have the problem but not as bad!

Yeah, as above sounds like he's trying to pull the wool over your eyes. My mate had exactly this problem too (and he had to have a new box) fookin unreliable van really, what with the common box prob his also just stopped running one day.. the fuel pump lunched itself and put swarf throughout the whole system and we had to replace everything!

the gearboxes in these are utter rubbish, down the workshop i use i've seen 5 of them with gone gearboxes

commonly they start to grind in 4th 5th & 6th - Ł1200 approx to get them rebuilt.

in fact the whole van is rubbish; get an X plate transit with the old style engine (think it was X reg the last year they done them on)

This is exactly what my friend has replaced his with.

To be fair when the van was running he liked it, he said it was a nice drive.. but the amount of hassle he had with it was unreal, and after searching the internet for advice about his problems we found many other cases.

to be fair not many manufactures make a decent diesel any more, IMO they;ve tried to over complicate something that doesnt need to be over complicated.....its a works van at the end of the day!

take the vivaro for example; it has air con, 6 speed, sat nav etc.....its just more things that can go wrong...they cant even get the mechanical things right such as the shite gearboxes

go for a transit; proven and quality, although the later ones do seem to suffer from diesel pump problems

I had been helping my mate look for a van for months and as you say there is loads of scrap out there advertised as mint.

Another problem we seen on vivaros was them being real sluggish when cold , but ran fine once heated up.Anyone had this problem before ??

seen this before too; could have been a coincidence but the one i saw had injectors problems; but they were so difficult to get the injectors out, it was almost as if they were welded in there, had to get them machined out in the end

so keep way from this van, utter shite!!!

We looked at a few sites on the net and a few had said the air flow meter causes similar peroblems , but would think it would be more likely to be a temp sensor.
I take it #4 injector gets corroded and doesnt fire untill there is some heat in it ?

no.4 injector stopped working all together on the one i saw; and it wasnt the first one my mechanic mate had seen, they are just shite vans all round

just steer clear; get a merc/ transit van if your looking for a van

out of all the vans ive had id say sprinter or transit are best option
