Default External wastegate pressure take off....

righto, just been out doing some of the vac stuff on the 3dr and i found that i may have a small problem.

now, this pic kinda dictates how the vac stuff is going to be

i knew that my turbo does NOT have an outlet for a vac fitting on it, but as its an external wastegate, it didnt pose a problem, until now lol

basically, i was planning on using the outlet marked spare on my quality diagram to go to the boost controller, and then from the boost controller to the external wastegate.

one point is that the vac manifold is obviously on the inlet, just before the cylinder head - so is this too far into the system for a take off? Does it need to be on the compressor housing etc?

and secondly, its AFTER the throttles, so will this be a problem?

im not sure it will be, as if the throttle is closed, you wont need the wastegate open, and when it is open, the system will be pressureised...

anyone got any input please.

ta,

Dan

Dont use the inlet side for pressure scource, use intercooler or outlet on turbo.

Your technical knowledge is obviously of the same standard as your AutoCAD 'Dan Fudge Edition' Technical Drawings...

For boost threshold reduction/response etc. etc. i would personally either drill and tap your compressor housing - or a boost pipe as close to the compressor outlet as possible - run that to the boost controller and from the boost controller to the wastegate.

The rest of your system looks acceptable... just.

lol cool cheers for the input fellas.

i guess ill have to whip off the compressor housing and take it over to the old mans

should be able to grind a flat onto the compressor outlet and then drill & tap it.

Fudgey do you not have any metal pipework between intercooler and inlet you could tap into?

as Mark says that is the best idea fella.

sean, yes, i got pro alloy to make alloy boost pipes, so pipe from turbo to IC is alloy (obv with silcon joiners)

but is like 1mm thick so id need a fitting welded on, whereas i can just get dad to machine the comp housing. probably easier lol

i see
ways and means of doing the job!!!!
just be careful you dont get too much of a boost spike as the hot end is last to pressurise up.

ok, i just had a look at the pics of rods engine on the dyno, the take off on his turbo is at the narrowest point, so i guess thats the best option?

Just so there's no room for confusion on what Mark's carefully explained to you Dan...

I've done you a technical drawing in AutoCAD 'Dan Fudge Special Needs Edition' - hope it helps
