Default Scooby wrx sti question

Hi Guys,

Has anyone here got a wrx - sti V5 , V6 (classic shape Scooby). Looking to buy one for the weekend , have 6 k to invest. Will this be enough for a clean example?, are they to old to be considered reliable?

Also is the sti wrx v6 the jap version of the UK P1

Any help / pictures appreciated

Peter

lol, you're right, the Type-R has the shite standard Subaru 4-pots.... I'd much rather the Prodrive Alcons instead mate!!

For 6k, you will REALLY struggle to get a really clean, low mileage Version 4, 5 or 6 Type-R...... but you will get a Saloon or Wagon for that price.

Cheers,
Gran

Really ?? Aren't the calipers prone to fucking up ?? And the discs are mega expensive too ? Seen loads of type r's at 6k Least thats what a subaru tech told me.

Forgot to say, they are reliable providing:

- They arent mentally modified, anything over 330bhp and 320lb/ft will put strain on the gearbox and it WILL go with proper use.
- They either run religiously on V-Power/Tesco99 AND Octane Booster or have been re-mapped to run on UK fuel.
- They are warmed up/cooled down properly.
- The VF28 turbo can be quite fragile depending on the mods, specially if running higher boost.
- The MAF sensors are a weak point, and will keep being a problem, specially if it is fitted with an Induction Kit.
- These cars need serviced on time and the cambelt (45k, 90k, etc) service can be pretty pricey depending where you take it.

Depending what you're coming from, you'll enjoy the drive of the STi though. A standard car with a re-map and some handling parts makes for a really quick back road car IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

Aye, if you go to Subaru then you'll get raped for the discs and pads... places like Godspeed can do replacement/uprated stuff for much better prices. If I was looking for a Type-R then I'd just buy one with standard brakes and budget for an AP Big Brake Conversion....... would be rare to find a Jap Import with Prodrive Upgrade fitted as it was a UK option.

I've not looked around at these cars for a bit, but a Version 5 or Version 6 Type-R at £6000 is likely to be slightly high miles or require a bit of freshening up.. if you can live without the 2dr exclusivity and the DCCD gearbox, then you'd be better spending your money on a 4 or 5dr Impreza.

Cheers,
Grant
