Mark,
I remember you saying you don't want to push the engine above 1000bhp, is this before or after Nos? As if it after then forget about the race fuel
Monitoring cylinder pressure is also a great diagnostics tool and you can see exactly whn it is combusting, so you know for sure you're not advancing it too much

Total hp, So its limiting either nos or boost not sure which one yet but prob nos will be reduced,
At some point I am sure we should be able to run some more tests on these engines, Maybe I will biuld my own 1000hp engine/car

Come on guys, I have supported this thread right through...search back a few pages and you'll see my posts supporting this build.
I wasnt meaning to talk out of turn, or act like a tosser...I am genuinely interested and I 100% respect this being done in public ..
Chip has so very kindly replied to my post in an intelligent way furthering discussion and binging light to the situation. I didnt know mark was trying to do the build without specialist machining...something I asshumed would be requied at this level...fair play to him for finding the limits and using this R&D for his customers
I wasnt aware that the probe engine ran on super fuel, I thought it was race fuel... which rod can use...so the similarity is there...I think it's a 850+ motor so wasn't having a dig...more like asking a question.
Sorry to have offended anyone or commented out of turn, I respect the fact that you all know a hell of a lot more about developing engines than me so i'll shut up now .
Dan
**EDIT** Just re-read my original post, It reads really badly like i'm having a go, that was not my intention. I'm on holiday atm and had a few beers dinnertime :S

Unfortuently once you get upto this terretory development is whats needed, which you've already done, just hope once you solve the HG issues, it doesn't find the next weakest link

On previous tests of this gasket/gas ring set up on big horse power YB engines it was found that compression from one cylinder displaced the gas ring on the adjourning cylinder.
Although there are several engines running this set up with no problems
I understand that it is now recommended that head studs are not reused but replaced.
There were studs made from a different material which were better, also some of the 'copies' 'feel' better when tightening.

if you knew it may have been possible that i could have asked a design engineer at work what sort of preasure it would have took to have stretched the studs once torqued down

Any results from a rockwell hardness test of the head ?

PassionFord Post Whore!!
All my heads are hardness tested and are within the req hardness, My headman will have the exact test number writen down but they are always within what is deamed hard for what they are being used for.

Rockwell hardness test, like being back at uni playing about. Was just reding about heads going through annealing processes eg hardening, softening depending on cycles etc. Should really get back to my other studies!

I have the spec for many types of studs as FoMoCo, there are mainly BDT, BDT/E, wheel and suspension but no YB.

What diameter are the head studs?
I've seen inside a Zen Performance engine (won time attack series) and was amazed to see he was using 14mm head studs!

Well ive been waiting for the response from FT/Toyo to my withdrawal & it came this morning. Can I get my car their as a Static display as they have advertised it will be there, think Mick may bring his drag car, which is too noisy to run.
Have asked Mark & my head is already in bits so a no-go, can fit another engine & put my turbo/manifolds on it. Will need to ask Deano for some favours on this one.Its a maybe at the mo.

Mark is too busy to help during the day & late nighters aint going to happen at my age be assured.

If the engine is stripped i reckon you should swap in the one from Chips 3dr!
I've changed an engine in a 3dr in 1hr20min before to swap a leacky core plug.
Just put chips in with your manifolds and management, turbo etc. Probably still 500 bhp +

Would need a minimum of 1000bhp to contest this event. .
Thanks for the offers lads do you really think we could do it we have 2 evenings & a Saturday, I dont think so.
Not got a transporter either, dont think its the best time to ask Dave
& my other one thinks its too far for a one day return trip.

We can do it absolute piece of piss in that time, NO drama at all.
And im positive dave will lend me his jeep and trailer if he doenst want to tow it himself, which he probably would anyway, he's just that sort of bloke
I drive that far in a day all the time, couldnt give a monkeys mate, no problem at all.
