Default Why is overtaking so frowned upon :(

why do people feel the need to flash their light at you franticly when youve just overtaken them?

IF YOU WEREN'T DRIVING SO SLOW I WOULDNT HAVE OVERTAKEN

i'm talking like 40 in a NSL etc.

you hardly ever see people overtake anymore. you end up with ques of traffic in NSLs as no fooker will overtake what it is holding them up, 've seen ques 30+ cars long and NOBODY will overtake!

then when you do they all fookin flash you

nothing dangerous about overtaking AT ALL if done properly, so why is it so frowned upon nowadays

i think its because you have spoilt there nice view of no cars in front. They were actually totally unaware anyone was behind them for the past 5 miles.

on this occassion jim i completely agree, its quite funny I have a country road on the way home which i quite enjoy zipping along and i do on occassions overtake so that I can continue on my jaunt at a fiesty pasteknowing full well that the traffic lights at the end will bring us all together again 9 times out of 10. and the number of times i get shakes of the head finger wagging etc. as I look in my rear view mirror like I was some kind of third world dictator into ethnic cleansing

It's because this country is brainwashed with PC and 'human rights' to the point where people won't overtake incase it offends anyone!!!!

This country is fucked

I drive around all day in a van limited to 70mph.

On the motorway I often find that Im the fastest moving vehicle!

I agree with what you Jim in that I often see a massive que of people going 40 or 50 in a 60 and when I look expecting to see a tractor or something and its some idiot dawdling along with no care in the world doing 20 mph less than the speed limit!

Jim, your overtakes arent just normal overtakes are they though mate. Your engine is at 7.5k rpm when you go past them which probably scares the living day lights out of them and they re-act by flashing their lights

I once over took a guy on a National Speed Limit road by me he was doing 30 mph!!
Then he put his full beam on permantly, so I just pressed the electric rear sun screen on the Omega and carried on.

Overtaking is easy, but im frequently finding myself doing more and more undertaking on the motorways.

Seems to wake a few up and others dont even bat an eyelid and continue on their merry way in the middle lane with nothing on the inside

I'd be happy if they flashed me at least i'd know their was life inside their vehicle then

Completely agree, does my bloody head in this. been on the A17 all day and it pisses me off when you see a car thats perfectly capable of doing 60, doing 40-45 mph, holding even the hgv's up! these people should be banned and given a test in common sense. Whats even worse is they think that the people that overtake them and give them abuse as they go past are the bad drivers!

These 40 mph drivers in NSL REALLy do my head in when they get to a 30mph village and continue at 40mph though! thats just totally and utterly ridiculous and just shows zero awareness!

It should be against the law to drive at more than 5 mph below the speed limit! It would prevent road rage and would also ease congestion and help traffic flow.

No excuse for going below the speed limit though. I can still safely overtake cars doing 40-50 in nsl roads and ive got a 65 bhp van!

What get me is, these people actually seem to think their the ones driving safely, but are actually totally unaware of the frustration, anger and total chaos they are causing behind them!

i usually overtake one of these idiots doing 30mph in a NSL everyday as im a delivery driver but i have one of those damn "hows my driving stickers"!
My guvnor gets a call nearly every week saying that i was driving "erraticly" or "treating the road like a racetrack". Its very annoying

lane discipline on motorways pissesme off too, i agree with stu@msd that it should be illegal to let yourself get undertaken.

if i can undertake you, you were driving in the WRONG LANE

I like passing people who have their windows down. Try and time 8k revs with a loud exhaust so it all happens right next to them - select next gear and keep going.

Fuck em all

only because in that scenario i'd be SPEEDING.

undertaking by defination is NOT illegal, it's in the highway code, not the lawbooks.

also if you were sat in the middle lane at 70, you'd also be breaking the law

i dont know this for a fact, but im sure there was a recent drive with the police pulling people over and fining them for middle lane hogging.

presumably they cant do this without legal backing (altho thats never stopped the coppers before )

still, you probably wouldnt do it as youre not a twat but there's SO MANY people out there that do it and dont even realise what theyre doing/why

honestly ????

no i nearly always sit in the midle lane !!!! it pisses me off something cronic sitting at 80mph on the side lane and coming up to a lorry/truck/car doing 55mph. every 15-20 seconds

then trying to pull back out into trafic doing 80

starts being very dangerous pulling in then having to pull straight out so i just sit in the middle lane, but i dont sit there at around 80mph

and i have noticed that this is nearlly always fast enough when i come up to another car i just pull out and overtake without worring at all or getting annoyed with ppl sitting there.

day of honesty and all

Was speaking to a traffic cop about middle lane hoggers - He said there was no actual crime, as it's more a question of road etiquette. I argued that surely it's 'driving without due care and attention', but was told the CPS would never let it go to court.

depends how empty to me,i have had to go inside people on the inside lane to get round people in the outside lane doing 55-60 and the middle doing the same. because people have the mentalilty of " theres a car half a mile up there,i'll just stay here till i can be bothered to move out the way"

if im travelling faster i will be getting there faster than you so move over imo.
