I was thinking that TBH. Is in as new a condition as you'd hope for before you start.

I think its having the time and effort to be doing the photographs and write up thats impressive.

I never found time when i did it for a living. Time is money and all that!

Impossible really to say without seeing the car in question. Some proper paintwork rectification jobs can take days to do properly, and there aint many folks who'll pay the deserved rate TBH.

Mind you some people do appreciate how much work goes into a proper detail and are willing to pay for your time to do it properly.

Ain't that the truth!! i know people who look at me like i have 2 heads when i say it'll be Ł60 or Ł80

and that's proper cheap for me spending 8 hours of my time on their car!! lol

Some people are very appreciative though, makes it worthwhile.

I thought, after reading the 1st couple of paragraphs that it was just some anorak who was trying to do a barn find comparison to the likes of some of the old school stuff.

Then when I actually READ IT PROPERLY!

Yeah i did Tony's, from memory i only used Poorboys products on it.

I used a Porter Cable DA polisher on it too, i think i used SSR2, defo finished with Natty's blue paste wax but can't seem to remember what i used in between lol

Ahh see I used the collinite to finish off as it seems to last longer than most! (read that as I was sweating and hurting after just doing the bonnet! ).

Looking into a cheapo porter cable, are they safe to use? or do they burn through the paint edges If not used lightly?

Collinite does last very long, it's a great wax...but i'd add a bit of Natty Blue on top for a bit more depth

Porter cables are very safe to use, they take a bit of getting use to but are great tools, i think Meguiars do a similar machine but i think it's more expensive.

I'd avoid cheap machines tbh though.

Worst one i ever did was a 9 month old Vauxhall Signum. The guy had parked it at work next to a foundry, and never noticed the huge layer of industrial fall out in the paint work till he came to clean it. He tried to scrape some of it off with a plastic spreader and mullered most of the roof in the process!!!

He then took it to a bodyshop who wanted to repaint the entire car cos it was so bad!

I eventually did the job for the insurance company, took 5 days to do it and charged them (from memory about Ł800 - Ł900). i had to remove the fall out with an agressive chemical mixture, wetsand and machine polish all the scratchmarks out, and it came up like brand new. the only things i couldnt save were the chrome effect plastic badges. everything else was "restored"

He actually became one of my best customers after that, brought me loads of business, like you say the appreciation of some people makes the job worth while. (at times lol)

But your right - Ł60-Ł80 is tooooo fookin cheap fella!

rather have a pic of the car in the background. Tbh, i woulda taken most of the time buffing that up and flat and polished it, cos that background looks dire:

Here is one i did, not as nicely, but flat and polished:

So, my mate baught a standard fto, and invited me to do my worst.




Two goals.... Desticker, and machine polish.
Now the fto had been sat outside every day for nearly 2 yrs so the paintwork needed some luuurrrvveee.




So, i started by flatting it all back:






(Que: Owner crying at state of car lol)
Then started doing some bits and bobs around, detailing mostly. Then set about with the polish itself. Starting off with a Machine polish using some trzact compound made by 3m. You can get it from any parts dealer i believe and its about 20 quid. And you could probably do this car 4 times over with one bottle. Masking up the trims makes cleaning later easier. Oh and its more proffesional lol.




Then some aplication of dark blue polish:

Then, some wheels cleaner and a clean didnt go amiss:

Then. A little sealer, wax, and a buff (Dodgy reflection alert):





Then, some buffing:



And without further ado. This here be the final product. Im happy with it. 7 hrs and 28quid later :thumbsup: :
