Cool Zetec Turbo discussion!

Iam soon starting to build a 2.0 ZetecTurbo for my project, but i need some feedback about:

1) what Compression Rate to go for. I will be using new forged pistons and steel rods ofcource.
2) Management. Many ppl tell me to use Megasquirt, but iam not sure? is it a bit fiddely to set up?

Looking for a solid 300-350 bhp from the engine.

how long is a piece of string?

9:1 will make that power (as the WRC cars did), 7:1 will also make that power. personally, i'm going somewhere in the middle

the best advice i can give, is measure the compression ratio properly. the JE's that are supposed to give 9:1 compression actually work out a bit more on a standard engine with a standard gasket, so be cautious!

as long as youre using sufficiant cooling go for 8.5-1. worked perfect for me. on megasquirt also was so so easy to use and play with as long as youve got a good quality wideband

7.5:1 and a decent turbo (eg, T34) will give you a flat torque curve from 2500rpm upwards on standard cams. For 350bhp though you'll need a ported head, double valve springs and definately steel rods.

Yes i know there are a thousand answers on this questions, thats why I want to hear your opinions

low down torque is a must. I wil be using new rods, as i want a solid bottom end, with no weak links.

If low down torque is required your gonna need to go higher comp or buy a very expensive turbo.

JAmes.

Are you saying that 320 lb-ft at 2500rpm isn't enough low down torque from a 2 litre?

Yes, but that's even more work with regards to valve springs, cams and VVT/removal.
