Default Insurance cover question.

If you take out fully comprehensive insurance, does it cover you for personal injury where no third party is involved?

eg. If a motorcyclist was fully comprehensive on a motorcycle and came off the road in the wet and paralysed themself would they get a payout to cover their injuries and further problems in life?

NO, been there done that!!
The only thing it covers against is 3rd party things, why 3rd party is the min you must have.
It will not cover the main policyholder, but of course will cover passengers etc as they are 3rd party(to the actual policy)

So apart from damages to your vehicle you don't gain anything from going fully comp over 3rd party???

So if you can quite comfortably cover the cost of your vehicle there is absolutly no point in going fully comp???

been there, done that

my car was insured in my dads name
i was driving the car
someone else, driving the car without insurance hit me
i got payed out, eventually

so this seems to suggest that if you are driving your own car and crash it and injure yourself you aren't covered, but everyone and everything else is

A friend of mine had third party only insurance was hit by a drunk driver and was badly injuried but the driver who crashed into him didn't admit fault for 3months, because there were no witnesses it couldn't be proved what exactly happened. But as a result of the crash my friends car took a lamp post out of the ground and caused alot damage to other third party objects, due to the fact it was his car that hit the other objects and the drunk driver hadn't admitted fault my friend was liable for the costs. If he had of been fully comp he could of claimed on his own insurance to cover the cost of the damage he caused untill the other driver admitted fault.

Thats what i thought Nick. The only reason i spend the extra and go fully comp is so that if i'm out of action for a long while or even dead my wife and kid would have some sort of financial compensation.

Would be nice to get tthe bottom of this.

saamon,
Your friend can claim on his insurance, just send the bill to them, they have to cover it.
I was insured fully comp when a DD hit me, wrote my bike off, spent 19 months in hospital, 3 months in coma etc.
I did not get a penny from my insurers, it was NU that I was insured with, and yes I had two different solicitors on the case.

I did.

Had 5 years no claims and then took two years off bikes and apparently they all lapse. Doh.

£700 fully comp on my R1 or £320 3rd party.

I insured a blade 3rd party for £320 when i was 22 so shows how much insurance has gone up.

OMG thats awful, do you have any long-term injuries? At the time his parents paid some of the bills then the other driver admitted fault luckly. He was in a mk4 fiesta and was hit head on, he was doing 30mph, the other driver was doing 60mph. The whole car was crushed around him and his shin bone went through his knee cap, it ruined his career in golfing and now struggles to drive manual cars.. I believe people who get caught drink-driving should be instantly banned for life.. No ifs no buts!!
