Default "quick" cossies... engine specs etc.

right for years i have built cossies with huge turbo`s, external wastegates and mad boost but i find them useless compared to greys/t35, has anyone got any ideas on a perfect car they could own? i was thinking 4x4, UT T38 30psi, cams/headwork, 9.0:1 CR live map.

just curious on thaughts

anyone run a similar spec car?

Mine might be similar Sean, once i can get the bloody thing mapped. All the tuners say you will have to cap the boost on a 9.1 Cossie though.

I would say Martin Hadlands ESCOS in white when it ran everything for 550bhp and 180+MPH but he swapped engine briefly for a stage3 330bhp engine that did the 3rd quickest 0-100MPH at the time... best of both world IMO. its not the engine that sorts the time and performance, ask martin and Danny B- 12sec car on a stg1

Though at Martins level now extra power is always welcome seeing as he has the chassis to take it

Mapping will be a pain but i know a chap called Lindsay Shaw (ex WRC carlos sainz/colin mcrae mechanic) and he knows a thing or two about 9.0:1 cossies and mapping them hopefully see some good results on WRC cams i reccon.

there was a chap at york dragway ford event a while back could have won if lighting sequence wasnt screwed up and he was only on stage3, ran mid 12`s and york is a very very poor strip.

i ran a 13.2/107mph on greys and t3, terminal proves how bad strip was, after 2nd gear it drops to concrete, wheelspin city lol.

How do you mean you find them useless? Laggy?

just in general, laggy, miss a gear and get them off boil and you loose!
side by side race with a stage3 or grey`d cossie i would probebly loose upto 100 120 mph.

depends what your useing the car for i guess but for me i think smaller is better.

gonna rebuild the bottom end and get the car down to ford fair and make my decision there, see whats for sale if i decide i want something different.

Sean.

use nitrous to wake it up, have it switch off once its on boost, job done.

or, if you using lairy ones, use shorter duration cams.

but T35/greys/2bar is a lovely engine that drives nice and beats most stuff out there, no doubt, loved mine.

Agreed fully - I had standard comp, standard head and cams, Greys, NMS map, T34 .63.

Punchy as hell, great to drive all the time. Was 371 bhp and felt the quickest most of the time even compared to my later 420 and 467 bhp conversions.

Shame the engine was on 100k + miles and was using more oil than petrol. Should have kept it as it was though - could have saved a fortune.

Although 467bhp was fun when on song....

As Stav says, nitrous is the key. Although lots of different ways to use it.

My T34+125bhp setup I was running was nutty, when you hit the throttle it took off more responsively than a ST escos, and it had the pull of a T4.

Downside to that was 50p a second for the nitrous.

How long does that last for? and does it only kick in when on full throttle?

My ideal cossie would be a 2wd Saph with a 9" 4.4 diff, 5 or 6-speed dogbox and a small turbo engine, converted to proper management running greys and a .55 T34 on max.boost

About 2 minutes for a large bottle.

And yes only on full throttle.

If used on a big turbo then it makes a lot of sense doing as stav says and using it only for "anti lag", plus then when it runs out your car is still quick, just less responsive.

Amazes me that anyone who spends a lot of money on their YB doesnt have nitrous, I really cant imagine why it wouldnt be wanted, people say stupid stuff like "it runs out" but when it runs out its only the same as not having it, so why have it none of the time when you can have the option?

Mine uses a T34.55, 400s, 7.8.1, mild head porting and standard cams. Only peaks at 24psi but i have still done the 1/4 in 12.91 @ 114.77mph.

Made 372bhp on a Dyno Dynamics RR holding 21psi at the limiter.

what does 'proper management' mean, and how do you expect it to make any improvements?
