Hi... Advice on Zetec turbo build...
Hey there...
I'm planning a Zetec Turbo build. And therefore i need some helpfull advice on a lot of facts
The plan at first was a 2,0 litre SE (blacktop) engine. I have been told that this is the strongest of the two Zetec E and SE engines?? Is it true, or is the Zetec E an easyer and just as strong an option?
The camshaft options to the SE is according to my mind a lot better - due to the mecanical followers...
My plan was:
* Low comp. JE Pistons (around 8,5/1 comp. ratio)
* Stronger con rods - But wich ones??
* Ported head
* Newman cams - but wich ones??
* Modified Rs2k inlet manifold (I have been told that the flow of this manifold is superb for a turbocharged engine??)
* "Brian Hansen" Tubular manifold - Tested in Performance Ford (or was it Fast Ford :-/)
* Omex 600 programmable ecu.
Etc. etc. etc.
Please do come along with your ideas and suggestions for this project ...

There is no 2 litre 'se' engine.. perhaps you're talking about the silver top and black top zetecs? (both E's, black top sometimes referrered to as 'R')..
You design an engine for the power you want, how you want it to be delivered, and what the application (and hence risk) is.. so figure those out and lay them down here

The only real difference that I know of between the 2 black and silver top Zetec engines is that the silver had a longer stroke which made it a bit lethargic to rev in comparison to the later engine and the black top had a revised rod ratio to improve this a little.
Oh and the colour of the rocker cover....

Blacktop has - Solid Lifters, Slightly lower compression ratio (but works out the same with the differing head gaskets used)
you'll need to "adjust" the top engine mount for a Mk4 escort as well mate
also a RS2000 inlet manifold will be difficult to fit, better to use a Rover T16 inlet with a spacer plate

think there's more to it than that mate. either head bolt positions are different or engine mount positions, or both. really can't remember though!

Er, the silver and black top engines have identical stroke (88mm). The later blacktop engine ran a longer rod, which is perhaps where you're getting confused.
