Oil light coming on when idling...
After all the hard work over the last year, the engine could be fucked again.
I've had a bit of an oil leak that i knew about from when the car was first started after the build, nowt terribly bad and i've always kept my eye on the oil level.
Was out and about today...and noticed when the car idles the oil light comes on but goes away once driven above about 1500rpm.
Any thoughts on this? Oil gone to thin and just needs changing? Or am i really screwed and probs got another fucked engine?

most probably(provided you've used the right oil and level is up) that the shells are worn providing low oil pressure at tickover.

Oil level is still fine, been keeping my eye on it constantly since rebuild.
It was driven for about 8 miles today. 4 miles to get where i was going and 4 miles to get back home.
I didn't notice this light until i got to where i was going
But one thing i did notice when i started it up to go home...when the engine was cold, was that it didnt come on then. And it wasn't till the engine was warm that it started to do it.
What could this point to?

change the oil switch may be a faulty one, or also change the oil and filter m8,if none of these then it could be due to oil pump not given enough pressure which will end up with worn big ends1 fingers crossed for you m8

I had that once with a Fiesta and it turned out to be a small piece of crap partaly blcoking the opening to the oil pressure switch. I just cleaned it off and put it back and it was fine.

low oil pressure... hmmm... id like for your sake to think its a dodgy pressure switch
did you change the switch when you rebuilt it?
how about the pump?
If you are running silly thin/old shitty oil in it then you will have low oil pressure ESPECIALLY when its warm and the turbo has heated it up to about a billion degrees!
other option of course is that youve got bore wash and your oil is piss thin as it has half a tank of petrol in it!
IMO you should get an oil pressure gauge and an oil temp gauge to see whats going on... make your informed choice from there!

Using a 20w 50 mineral stuff to run it in.
Renewed the pump when it was all pulled apart, the other one wasnt fucked but had done 84k so thought it would be best.
Didnt change the pressure switch though.
Still waiting to borrow a jack so i can drain the oil lol.

could of course be shit (ie swarf ) blocking the pickup pipe.. however this isnt likely on such a new engine unless youve used silicone to stick the sump on! or the big ends/mains/bores etc are worn!

Was a Burton pump from memory mate.
Just been thinking...the original engine was fucked due to oil starvation. Leaked loads of oil for about 10 mile.
Filled it back up with oil and started it and the car itself didnt run too bad but the compression was low and thats why we pulled it apart. The bearings where shagged but i never got the oil light on in all the time it was running while fucked.
Its defo over fuelling a bit, and the timings out...almost didnt pass MOT cos of emissions and HC's.

On the subject of oil, I recently nearly ran my 4x4 Sapphire dry, hadn't checked the oil for a while, checked it and was off the bottom of the dipstick! Took 2 litres to bring it back up to Max - but here's me thinking... WTF hasn't the oil light come on??? It's gone below Min, below the end of the F*cking dipstick... yet no oil light came on?? And yes it does come on with the ignition for a few secs like it is supposed to... so what gives?

the light will go of with(a cup full of oil) and pump is full to be honest,If you had say started to rag it hard and what little oil was in your sump the light would have come on I'm pretty sure on that! I have fitted a oil gauge in mine so I can see exactly what's going on(I dont like electrical types also as I think they give false readings) oh and JUST count your lucky stars m8 ALWAYS CHECK OIL DAILY AS STATED IN THE COSSIE MANUAL

Aye cheers mate, still being told either a 20w 50 or 15w 50 mineral based should be used for running in like.
Should have an oil and filter change by the weekend, will see what happens after that.

From reading this thread, it sounds more like an oil pressure problem and not a faulty switch.
