A looser engine will of course give you more power.
At the expense of engine life tho!
Must admit I did run the cossie in gently as I cannot afford another rebuild
But my R1 was deliberately thrashed from the word go

I was running to 6000rpm after 500 miles.

im glad that someone has written about this , ive used this method of runing in my engines for over 10 years , all my competition engines had been fully run in withtin 200 miles and run at full power and full reves within this and i have never had a failure because of this method , all this 1000miles is just bullshit to me !!! at last !!!

I managed to glaze the bores on a freshly built V8 just by running the cam in at around 3000 rpm with no load
It is so hard to make yourself give it some load and RPM when you've just blown a years overtime money on a rebuild and don't want any harm to come to your new creation.

I can't open the link
I have always wondered how you are supposed to run an engine in when you have fitted new Pistons/Rings and a new Cam and a new Turbo.
The engine really wants some gentle miles, as does the turbo, but the cam guidelines tell you to run it at 3000rpm for 20 mins or something??

Remember it's a machine not a bairn.

There are max RPM no load cycles but i don't think they are for long, a couple of minuites if that.
LOL people are so scared of running things in at times
markk, spot on
i ran mine it at 1 bar boost (on greys) using the rev range and WOT more progressively with the miles, it was mapped to 2 bar boost after a month having done about 500 miles and then hit the rollers a week later.......... as recommended by a certain engine designer/builder/mapper i know rather well and trust
its now done about 3500 miles, uses less oil (mineral i might add - no synthetics required
) than a std cossie

I was actually told this buy my girlfiends, best mate's dad, lol, who owns A1 gearboxes.
I have taken it very steady running mine in. but once I got to 800 miles I was told about this, that it needs load etc so I have been using some boost up through the gears occasionally. Still couldnt thrash it though. just too scared!!
not without at least changing the oil first!

exactly as i do
Taking it steady does more harm than good if you taking it REALLY steady, youl just glaze the bores.
I remember a certain high power cossie engine that was "run in" for 1000miles really really steady and was burning a fair bit of oil. It happened to go down Bluesprint the same day i was picking up my car from there.
Joe took a plug out n got the microscope thing to look at the bore, saw it was all glazed and goes il fix that, and drives off in the car.
For next 10mins all you hear is the sound of a cossie beaing ragged to fuck around the countryside and a quite worried looking owner.
Car comes back, bores deglazed, no more smoke, car spot on
Ive always ran the cars in for 1000miles, upto 3k for a few hundred but lots of WOT, and then every 1000miles after go up a 1000rpm until 1000miles when im fully caning the car (not full boost tho till 1000miles).
By looks of this i was still taking it too easy!
New tactics for when the GTR is ready then

Not like the litre every 400 miles before the rebuild
Well i just run it in for 800miles then full boost.
I was told by a certain tuner you only need 200miles but its easier said than done when its a newly built engine and its well known that around a 1000miles is what is mostly said....
I am sure Dels (turbosystem car) was run in for nearly 2000miles???
