Yeah now that Jim has explained to me that to take 3 degrees timing out to stop det all I have to do is press ctrl-p at once, press return to confirm, then wait a bit for it to update the 1 value i want plus the 255 values I dont want, then press enter to confirm its done it, its a DREAM to use

All joking aside though, it is something that would be worth him looking into IMHO as I see no point in the software not being a bit easier to use when live mapping on the road as he surely MUST realise thats what a lot of his customers do to map their cars?

so instead of moaning about it on pf why didn't you just rewrite the software so you could press 1 key then

Id need the source code for it first, which Dave hasnt yet emailed to me, as it would take an age to reverse engineer, as opposed to 2 minutes at 100 words a minute to write 200 words bitching about it

Dave did not write the software, but doews of course represent emerald, he admits he knows nothing about that side of things, but then again has never said he did.
There is a collosal amount going on at the moment, and the comments here, (constructive ones) will be brought to his attention, as he is appreciative of feedback and word on the street so to speak.
Dave does NOT use a mouse when mapping, not one I have ever seen, and assume if he had a problem he would have mentioned it, unless there is a way that you don't know about ?
I am having mine mapped on 15 July, so will keep a lookout for mice, as i scream like a little girl if I see any!!
Karl who does the compy side of things would I am sure be interested if it made life easier for some to know of difficulties, whenever I speak to Karl, most of what he says goes way over my head, but I'm too embarassed to say anything, nice bloke though, bloody clever, I get stuck at the on/off switch!!

Then you press enter to confirm that you have accidently pressed two fucking keys at once (as if you are EVER going to accidently press the ctrl key down and hold it then press P, im mean seriously WTF?) then you press enter then you have to wait AGES (trust me it IS ages if you are in the middle of getting det at 6000rpm at 2 bar of boost etc!) for the update to happen to the entire map, rather than just do the 1 cell that has changed (which the ECU already CAN do as it does it in live update mode) then you press enter again to say you accept its done the thing you pressed 2 keys to ask it to do then hit enter to confirm you wanted it to do.

Seriously, I design software for a living, and that fucking sucks, its just a totally shocking GUI he has clearly not got a clue what he is doing at this side of things, its just not anywhere near as useable a tool as it could SO easily be!

All it needs is a toggle for "live update / offline update" that when selected (by pressing 47 keys at once and confirming eleventy seven times with the enter key if he insists) that it then turns to live update mode (and if he wants just to be safe it could turn the entire map bright pink so you know that you are in LIVE mode) and any change you make happens instantly.

If you arent confident about doing it in that mode, you dont go through whatever obscenely complicated process he puts in place to put you into live edit mode and leave it as it is, but if you DO feel you can actually be trusted to type the correct things in, like you do with all the other ecu's you map, then it lets you do so.

Hardly rocket science really?

Its literally only a dozen lines of code and would turn his front end from something that is a PITA to use to something far simpler.

There we go, thats the rant NeilM has already told me off for having, so I figured I may as well do the crime as Id already done the time
To be fair to the ECU i know of a LOT that you have to press 2 keys and enter etc etc.

To name a few, i'm glad some1 else has noticed this, it get's on my nerves as well.

It would be better to have, anything right of H go up, anything left of G go down

It's stupid you have to press 2 key's. Like your going to be in the car hammering it with the laptop on your knee for something other than live mapping

My dad had his engine for his westfield sorted out by Dave back in the day when he did emerald cams and it's still spot on.

Me and Jimbo trained with Dave for years when he was a martial arts instructor before he moved up north and he was a good bloke then so i'm sure he still is now

Even Gotech - which i think is properly shit - allows u change in realtime...

I agree 100% with Chip, and would go as far as to say that u can't acutally get a properly optimised live map out of a system like this.

aye but the ecus u have mentioned will live up date as soon as a cell is entered rather than have to make the adjustment and then save it to the ecu ! by the way im going back to dta

After picking up(yet another ecu) from emerald yesterday, this question is going to be answered by Emerald themselves.
But as I read it you just go to F8, to LIVE UPDATE, put in new figure/s press ENTER all done.
I am not versed in these things though, so when discussing it, dave said he/karl would answer it, it may be a little delayed though.
He had yet another INNOVATE LC1 controller that was fubbared yesterday, glad I bought Tech Edge now, skint is not the word!!

I have heard of lots of cases of LC1's conking out, as do emerald, so I use Tech Edge as he suggested.
I got mine from trigger-wheels.co.uk, it is a 2J1 controller, with some very good features like calibrate, good for new sensors, just a button press away(in free air), and you can test sensor as you can any with a lighter(butane).
He also sells on ebay, it was £136.99 delivered, uses the latest Bosch 5 wire LS4/4.2 lambda included in the price, and is the uk seller of these, also got my 36-1 trigger wheel from him.

My techedge was awesome, but it was an earlier one that only used the expensive honda sensors, thats the only reason I swapped to innovate gear TBH
