wonder boy princess in todays papers....
after a quick look at todays papers im curious as to what the 2 wonder boy princes did to earn the medals they have on their uniforms? are medals handed out so easily in the forces these days? do you get them for playing with the toys for a few weeks before moving on?
what do real soldiers think of this? do they think "god bless em guv, theyre just like one of us" or do they think "fucking joke toy soldiers"?

never seen he papers today .
dunno if it was the papers talking him up before or not but afaik harry wanted to go to the front line to prove he was one of the boys.
fair enough he would have got alot more protection out there than most probably but still a very dangerous place imo and for him having to have the balls and go out there and do it.would you??

young boys playing with big toys. theres been lots of publicity recently showing one or the other flying wounded soldies home, appearing to be in front line action in full gear insisting they are one of the boys who was 'devestated when a pesky journalist outed him puting an end to his heroics, tackling drug barons in the navy etc etc. proper little super heroes im sure but they seem to be jumping between forces every few weeks and playing with all the toys.
anyone know what they got their medal for?

I think they are fucked either way in the eyes of a lot of folk, ie they are damned if they do and damned if they dont.
They arent in the forces for the money, thats for sure, so they only reasons they are potentially there IMHO are:
They want to be to help and fight for the country they love
They want positive publicity in the paper
I suspect there is an element of both those reasons, but ultimately I think fair play to them for giving it a go to the largest extent they are allowed to, in some ways they have freedoms others among us can only dream of, in others they are a lifelong slave to the rules governing the family that they were born into through no choice of their own
Genuinely not sure if I would show the strength of character they do or not if I was in the same position, must be fucking tempting to just be a playboy prince and fuck your way through every fit celebrity going etc as opposed to doing charity work and joining the forces.
Overall, I dont actually think they could possibly do much more to be good ambassadors for this country, and I think that charles in particular is a very inteligent man who genuinely does care about this country, Id actually sooner be a monarchy under him than carry on putting up with the two faced snivelling little back stabbing cunts we generally are limited to voting for after they have brownnosed bribed and cheated their way to the front of one of the two political parties.

PS
I believe they are active service medals, that you get simply for going to war, not for any specific act, its just to say they served in a particular place, but im not an expert on the subject so feel free to correct me!

im not specifically anti or pro royal but there does seem to be a publicity overdrive recently regarding both.

IIRC my mate was saying he got one for being in a submarine in the gulf war because that sub fired on iraq so it was classed as part of the campaign along with its crew.

i personally agree with chip they are in a no win situation, the reason prince william has been jumping from one armed forces to the next is because he will become the the head of the british armed forces so needs to have some experince in each field, im no fan of the royal family but they do bring in alot of tourism which in turn helps our economy

a quick look again at the pics shows both of them to have a gold medal with blue /white striped ribbons and harry has another silver medal with red/blue /white stripes.
prince philip has a set about a foot long with more than a dozen medals hanging from it. has he served anywhere?

the medals they have are merely campaign medals saying they have served in a particular war/campaign. every single soldier who has been to iraq or afghanistan will have a medal saying so.
they wont let william do to much as he will be the next king. however both are from our generation so have a different view of the country to their parents etc so are more down to earth and want to show they are doing their bit

Tell that to my great uncle who fought at arnham and lost nearly all of his colleagues who went in with him, IIRC it was 1200 of them went in and 200 of them came back out, having seen close quarters fighting on most days and been under continual fire from snipers/mortars etc during the whole period.
No such thing as a safe war, but the modern ones are a lot better for our boys than WW2 was.
WW1 was just a total fuckup of mismanagement and most of the soldiers who died never actually got to fight anyone, they were just pointlessly slaughtered in trench warfare without even even seeing an enemy troop up close much less having the chance to fight them
