However, I also know plenty of alleged 340bhp Cossies that struggle to achieve low 13s - again, it proves my point about finding good sorted Cossies that actually produce the power their owners think they do .

I havent actually had one single cossie out drag me on a motorway yet, and ive raced some "Alleged" 500bhp ones back from some meets.
(German PF meets of course, race was on autobahns)
They are pretty damn serious once rolling. Shocks me at times just how fast she is.

I'm surprised that you didn't notice that the power is going to the wrong wheels on these cars and struggle for traction - but having been out in Christian's car, it would blow your M5 into the weeds once rolling .

Relax mate, we understand. No hard feelings. Can my dad buy your dad anything? My dad isn't calling your dad poor or anything, he's just being friendly. My dad thinks your dad is fantastic.

We had a good play on the way back from Blowcat manor a few weeks back.
The journey home is always the best bit.
I had another play the other night with your friend with the white 3 door with the chrome escos rims down the M55, was good too.

Real Life Quarter Mile Times from a totally standard M5 on a drag strip (Not an Autocar Test by a 60 year journalist with his wrist watch)...............
1st run: 12.964@108.09, 2.055 60ft. launched at 1200rpm and just bogged...I was sure I could correct it with the next run.
2nd run: 13.162@109.05, 2.195 60ft. (had better 60ft's in my Peugeot) launched at 1500rpm and spun and spun and spun...damn
Launches are a pain. The 60ft times were below my expectations. I never had this much trouble on the street, but different surfaces hook up differently. After conversing with some of the track experts, it's figured that with a proper launch and perfect shifts, a solid 12.8 can be had considering the 109mph trap speed. Ok, lets try this again...
3rd run: 12.963@106.03, 2.009 60ft. TOTALLY missed 4th gear, but recovered fast. Don't know what happened to the mph on this one, probably the missed gear.
For those who care about R/T: .603, .578, and .878 respectively. I kind of took my time on the last one while concentrating on the launch.
I'm kind of disappointed that I never got a "perfect" run, but overall I'm happy with the results. I'll need a few more runs to learn the proper launch; don't know if I'll get that practice soon. I don't plan on going down the dragstrip again for a while. I suppose I can't expect much more for my first time running the beast.
BTW, the M5 with a quarter tank weighed in at hefty 3,864 pounds (without me in it) as indicated by the track's scale.
But the 12.96 1/4 mile isn't bad considering it was done with a non perfect shift into fourth.
A 12.8 is definately on the cards.

So Mike Rainbird did a 12.892 @ 111mph in his stage 3 (Which was a VERY good stage 3)........But bear in mind that Mike was a regular runner of the 1/4 mile.
And in a first attempt with the M5 .....It managed a 12.963 at 108mph..............NOW TELL ME WHICH IS PROBABLY THE QUICKER 1/4 MILE CAR (with a little more practice in the M5).
Mikes Stage 3 Cossie : 12.892 @ 111mph (A regular competitor)
Standard BMW E39 M5 : 12.963 @ 108mph (1st Time on a drag strip, with any car)

Don't forget my stage 3 was with a T3 turbo (60 trim), where most are now sporting T34s on a 0.48 housing as "stage 3s". In that set-up, I did 12.64 @ 115mph .
Mind you that is good going for the M5, is the car from Norwich, as I am sure I have seen a similar plated M5....?

Happily retired
Vikingboy off here has a new M5 & also has a 740bhp EVO he refers to the M5 as a slow pile of shite not the starship galactica that Stu thinks. .
It aint fast full stop Stu, a decent car yes but fast not a chance, the 186 would take ages to reach as for beating 500bhp Cossies my old 500 Cossie would have eaten it for breakfast however you wanted to compare it.

ROD............Were were all refering to a stage three cossie, not a 500bhp car.
My 430bhp Cossie was faster than my M5, but we weren't talking big power cossies.......we were talking about the fact that it would take a good stage 3 cossie to beat a standard M5.
What's fast and what isn't fast is all relative. After driving a 740bhp Evo, I too would think the M5 was slow. That's stating the rather obvious (In both cases).

Fantastic fantastic awesome daily drivers as i keep saying, but quite underwhelming speed wise on british roads compared to tuned evo's, cossie's etc.
