600hp is not going to get Dave his 200mph though, so he needs that power if he's going to get there. Having said that theres nothing stopping him fitting a smaller turbo aftwards. The 7 speed box is dog engagement no would be fine on track but not so nice for road use.
600bhp is going to be my low boost setting after ive finished with the new conversion

sorry to hear about engine Dave
Think you should put it 2 about 400bhp - 500bhp and drive it and enjoy it with out having all the breakages.
ive been thinking going big BHP but all i keep hearing is nitemare storys

but a pinto 2l block was never intended to run 700bhp! LOL
The fact it holds on to 500bhp is a miracle in itself....you can hardly blame ford for cutting back on costs if the block is still more than capable of coping with a paltry 220bhp which is what it was intended for.

hi mate
i understand what your saying ,but what i mean to say in easy terms is that there are alot of parts for these cossies and some are made crap and on the cheap
and just to let you know the YB pinto based was designed for 330bhp but was de-tuned for warrenty, 200+bhp standard from a road car in 1986 was good back then

Who knows yet, need a block 1st
Looks like l might have found a original ford block not used and not a 99 stamped one
Would you use a new block for liners or would you look for a block thats had miles on it, so it already done it hot cold hot already

from what iv heard old blocks suffer less from stress so a block with miles on it would be a better one to go for
i may be wrong but when bmw wanted to make a motor for F1 in the 70-80s the went to the scrap yard for old blocks to build them with

hi
Just read this from darkest Canada.
So sorry Dave but know how you feel.
Daves engine was built in 2004 before mine, I used my old block which was not a Turkish one. This Block did a lot of 200+ runs before cracking it had Mountune Liners. For my rebuild a new Block was purchased & thin wall 'perfect Bore' liners used to save Block integrity this was an error on two parts, one we did not realise a '99' block was weak at the time & that thin walled liners are a no-go in the YB Block. It was a temperature problem that caused my Block to warp & the Mountune liners effectively eliminate that so Dave had only one weakness not two.
Lots of well meaning people telling Dave what he should do but his aim is to outgun Martin & for that in his car he will require circa 720bhp to be sure, putting it back to 600bhp will not achieve this ambition & so I hope Dave will continue, if I had listened to people on here I would have quit long ago.
Stick in there Dave, see ya soon

also lol,do you think the bara gearbox would take that sort of power?how many other things would need changing to cope?
this could end up very expensive.

Its going back to Bara in next couple of weeks for the 1000bhp upgrade that he is due to bring out soon
After seeing nearly 30 Full throttle launches its going in to be checked

Not from me!
Mark has specified liners on your engine to cope with the cylinder pressures that go with the high compression that he (and rally cars) like(s) to run . This is what they were originally designed for....
The people that are telling you to stick with the standard blocks are all running 7.3:1 or lower compression! So unless you are prepared to go that low, then I would listen to what Mark wants to see in his engine above anyone else.
