I retract my post saying do not use liners,as i have just read you are high comp and use lots of boost.Maybe it would be wise to look into std non linered block and lower the compression, high compression and top speed doesnt really look good on paper for reliability,i know folk will quote Scandinavians and rallycross cars but these are NOT top speed cars.If you want to acheive your goal Mad Yum without any spanners you need to lower that compression or you are risking MORE failures.IMO.

how do you lower compression without spanners?

run water through the engine at high revs?

dont think thats going to be to successfull.

If you could understand i said if he stays as it is he will need more spanners, the engine needs a rebuild now,do it once and do it right for his goal, then he wont need anymore spanners.

Might sound daft but can u not use a std bore 200 block and liner that? u will end up with less cc's but it would be stronger

Higher compression than all the others that recommend a standard block use - is that better for you?

I thought that Mark quoted yours being 8.0:1 or possibly hinted at it being a bit more?

I was sure the MAD crew ridiculed 7.2:1 / T4s etc as being stuck in the past ?

Not at all, I was just commenting that I believed he should be sticking with a linered block due to the relatively high compression he was running compared to the advocates of an un-linered block. And then from Dave's comments, it appears that he is suggesting that the compression ratio isn't as high as previously claimed? Therefore, I was just trying to establish what the case was in a FRIENDLY bantering way (no more different from your "low boost" comment) .

Okay, shoot me down in flames, but when-ever compression below 8.0:1 is suggested, the Rod comes on and tells us we are way behind the times and living in the past .

I was only trying to help, as in if you were 8.0:1, then all those people suggesting an unlinered block are living in cloud cuckoo land, and you should retain this set up for your engine, rather than listening to them .

Dave,

Do you know the c/r ?? Anything to slow Mr Rainbird down a bit!

I had assumed that your engine wasn't high comp anyway.

We have already seen that lowish comp can get you your goal

Okay, I just thought that the way Rod goes on, that no MAD engine is below 8.0:1. My bad if that is not the case . However, I would still listen to Mark over anyone else about what block arrangement he considers safe for HIS engine....

I can't believe you numpties see it as anything other than backing up what MARK WANTS to do . I think it might be because I disagreed with the consensus that you're trying to score points?

I clearly and concisely clarified my reasoning for recommending linering the block, based on my understanding of how Mark likes to spec his engines. If you want to turn it into something else, feel free, but don't expect me to agree . I only back-tracked (with some playful banter - even taking the piss out my own views on compression and turbos ), as my assumption about the compression was incorrect.

Might I suggest you get a life rather than trying to stir shit where there is none . If I wanted to do that, I think I would do a better job than suggesting he gets Mark to decide on the block spec .
