thing is thought, why are they striking?
because they want a 13% pay rise and the company are only offering them a 6.5% pay rise?

let them stay off for 4 days while they don't get paid, then let them stay off for a few more days, then offer them the same deal

when the company has made it's money by not paying them for the amount of days they have taken off and not been paid for, give them the 7% deal and see how many will vote for it

quids in for shell as the people who are going to sufer will still be filling up and only the shops serving will be closed and not taking any money so they aren't worried about that

and if they get more cheeky then sack the lot of them and employ a load of polish drivers who will come over with lhd lorries and fill up somewhere forgien and not pay any tax

Its ridiculous the amount of Fuel Duty Tax we pay... Where does it go ???

Out of a 115p litre of fuel.... 10.17p goes to the retailer, 17.13p is VAT, 37.35p for the oil, and 50.35p for fuel duty !!!!

Those drivers aint had a pay rise THIS DECADE,
I think its a perfectly viable reason to strike.

so 10 years ago they were earning Ł36k and today they are earning Ł36k?
why has it taken that long to figure out they ddn't get a pay rise?

or is it that they were so well paid originally that they didn't bother to ask for one?or has the risk increased by 13% all of a sudden?

You want them to drive all that deadly cargo around for Ł75 a week i suppose yeah?

but in conclusion shell make too much money and there drivers are over paid
How can a company make TOO MUCH MONEY?

Dont talk fooking rubbish. have you seen the size of their operation? Their oilrigs, shipping companies, haulage operations, staff, all this WORLDWIDE? And you expect them to have that sort of outlay, risk and stress for Ł300 a week do you?

The problem with this country is everyone seems to look down on those doing well as though they are bastards for doing so. The Brits seem to prefer people with no drive who are skint, i really dont get it!

stu:
i'm all for them making money, but it does seem a bit, at best, immature and, at worst, damn right idiotic, to have gone so long without a pay rise and not said anything

if they have then fair enough, but no ones menitoned that so far

joal:
for shell to make Ł1,300,000,000 profit a month and the cost of this strike is going to be sorted by them putting up a mere Ł1,000,000 over the course of a year is fine in princaple, but what if it's your share that they are going to use to pay them?

it wouldn't be so fair them would it

Ł31,800 basic inc shift allowance,
The shift allowance has changed but the actual basic salary has stayed static.

Most of the drivers drove for Shell and it was a shit hot job, dead mans shoes kinda thing, excellent money, excellent benefits etc, then Shell subbied the work out to cut costs and basically put the squeeze on the subbies, its got to the stage where enough is enough.

Just out of interest how much would you want for driving a 35 tonne bomb around?

Don't give me that bollocks. Give me examples of drivers actually being injured while on the job - and don't include that depot blowing up unless you think the cleaners there should be on Ł41k too...

piss taking at it's best.

even so, it is more dangerous than carrying a load of evian about.

better go stick some fuel in the pug i guess, although us diesel car owners should be ok as there is always tescos

I went to the local garage as the " you've been tangoed light came on" on the dash.

Started fillingup and thought i would put Ł30 in as only had that in cash on me.

Got to Ł21.45 and it cut out, i thought what its not full yet....

Maybe the tank has run out in the station...
So i trotted inside where the lady said, " we are rationing the fuel to Ł20 per vehicle".

Thats fine love il just reverse then and drive back in and add the extra

She said well i suppose so you could

isnt it a case of theyve had rises in line with inflation over the last 10 years so are still on a wage level equal to 10 years ago? i cant believe theyve not had any rises in 10 years.

ive seen 2 guys die and loads injured on building sites in the last year or so so that makes it far more dangerous than driving a truck so should everyone on a building site expect 40G a year? and if its a case of high risk why does a truck driver get more than double the wage of a front line soldier? you cant tell me driving a truck is more skilled or dangerous than dodging bulets and bombs in iraq?
sure everyone wants what they can get but when they get Ł36G already they wont get much support from joe public for their cause.
