lol i had some other plates in the boots, german style ones, he wasnt happy with them either
i got done like that on ex's car he had the german plates on the bm he got pulled and fined but he didnt change them then i went shopping about an hour from home and the same one spotted me and fined me
Black plates and D banded plates just seem to be too much of an easy pull these days... Lucky you got away with them til now really!
I've got un-banded pressed Euro plates on two of my cars, been pulled in both and they asked about them but my story about it being an old car... pressed plates being the norm back then etc etc worked a treat

To be honest i never look at plates on a car, i dont see a nice car and go "oooh very nice motor, but i dont like the plates"
Unless there multi coloured in the shape of a christmas tree im never going to notice

If they didnt take any details or give you a defect form then i wouldnt worry too much this time, but if i was you id change them and keep a low profile for a while cos if you get pulled for them again (especially by the same plod which would be just my luck!) then you might not be so lucky and get hammered for them
PLOD may not have asked for your details as he had them from the PNC!!
They have to give you a warning first, second time a fine can be given third time they withdraw the reg, and physically unscrew the plates there and then, then they can if they wanted to get it towed at your expense and charge you storage until you can get it back when you have your new reg number, just not worth the hassle.
I have short number plates but mine legal as I have two number ones so cut down so they have the 11mm at the edges still, look nice but legal.

It's not an endorsable offence to th ebest of my knowledge.
I've just got myself a German style pressed plate for the front of my Audi. I know they aren't strictly legal and the first time I get a tug I will swallow the Ł30 fine and put it on the wall above my PC.
I've always had legal plates since a very dodgy set on my S2 landed me in court.
My own fault though so can't blame anybody but myself.
This is my new one

the reason they have to be "standardised" is tha the anpr systems don't "see" the funny plates, so if they are pressed or designed in such a way as to make them look different you will get tugged by the elderly william who has nothng better to do than to tell you it's to stop terrorism

Biggest questions is tho, why even bother with "modified" plates? A) asking for trouble, b) whats the point anyway? Plates are hardly a fasion item are they!

what a waste of money. if you've got money to spare getting these made up and for paying the fines, you'd be better off donating it to charity to help those in the world less fortunate than you
as for having german style ones, it's all well and good having the look of the pressed plate, but having the 'D' on the side is completely wrong. i bet most of the chavs with those would not dream of wearing a german team football shirt

I havent got a D on the number plate its just a pressed one
I have though.
I haven't done it for anybodies approval, I done it because I like them, the car is German and having spent some time in Germany I actually found them very pleasant peope. I also won't come crying on here if/when I get into trouble for them

I understand tthat if the plates are taken away from you (stopped once after a fine) then you can only re-register on a Q plate! And that will have knock ons into resale value and insurance.
I never bothered to check it out legalls as I just run plain old boring Uk yellow and black plated but if you guys are running the risk you might wnat to at least check yourselves.
