Well ive only ever put optimax/v-power in the cossy and cant say ive noticed a difference. I would have thought it would be very marginal and not even noticeable in reality though. I work my mpg out in the van on every fill up to make sure everythings running as it should (sad i know ), i dont see a difference at all whatever diesel i put in.

i use v power at the moment and to be honest i think the mpg is shit. I put it in my cossie i used to put 40 quid in and do 190 mile. I dont know if thats about right for a cossie cause any petrol car with a turbo is use more fuel than a petrol engine without a turbo.

I remember when i filled up with regular diesel from Shell. When i went in to pay, the cashier was saying i should try the v-power diesel as it will give you 5% more mpg. I said, well thats no good then cos its 10% more expensive!!!!

why no normal petrol option?

dont get as many mpg from optimax as i do from tesco usual stuff tbh.

And dont see the point wasting money on super unleaded not at the price it costs to run the cars now anyway

fair doo's

from a performance point of view in performance ford last year optimax gave the best power, all tested on the same engine

if that helps

Tbh the Cossie only got ran on super if it was going to a rolling road or the likes, it ran perfectly fine on standard fuel so didnt see the point wasting the extra money, they werent supposed to be ran on 99 ron from Ford when brand new were they

i would rather pay that little bit extra for fuel than having to pay for a engine rebuild.

it doesn't matter what i put into the van dieselwise as it all depends on what sort of traveling i do in what van it is

the only measurably difference was with the bp super diesel that provided more poke at the top end of the rev range in the vitos, nothing different on the connects of the transit that i have noticed so far

as for petrol, it doens't matter what i put in, the car only does about 15 mpg around town and if i do 60 mph it'll creep up to about 36 mpg on the motorway

it could have been a number of things, but seems to point towards the oil pump, the pistons and the machine shop oh and now the fuel pump after what you said

Charlie chalk - exactly, you cant have economy and performance together

a knocking engine could be from bearing damage from pre-ignition due to fuel with not high enough octane (if the burn happens before the piston comes up to TDC and is supposed to be on it's way up and the cheap fuel tries to send it back down again). not saying that did or didn't happen in your case, but it could.

if you want to work out your mpg based on how much fuel you fill by the £ rather than the litre, have a look at this online calculator

works out 33mpg for the last £20 we put in, not far out from the trip computer in the car, which is good

I've found that BP Ultimate gives the best MPG, V-Power the best throttle response and Tesco somewhere in between.
I actually use Esso Supreme as it's cheaper than all 3 of the above round my way, and actually cheaper than Tesco 95 next door.

it depends what it was mapped to run...i can only run 99 octane, as it was mapped for it.

wasnt yours a t4 engine?

id be suprised if it should run std fuel tbh... may well be the cause of your failiure....

why only run super on the dyno?...thats when they could have spotted the issue...was it live mapped? if so i bet it was mapped on high octane fuel?

it was a t4 engine after rebuild yeah, it wasnt live mapped as it never got that far before going bang it was ran in, then went to get set up and then expired before it ever had a chance for a live map!

I've never ever noticed any MPG difference between any fuels......
In fact the only differences I've noticed are that Optimax smells sweet, and my Capri pinks on 95 RON... end of story

Trying to get good MPG is soul destroying, so I just keep filling up, and grin and bear it....
