Default what sort of money is it to change a scooby gearbox ?

just seen a scooby i fancy but the bloke says it crunchs in 4th when you giving it some ? so i take it the gearbox needs to come out and have the syncros etc done and then refit the gearbox ?

is this a normal job or is it a pig of a job and going to work out expensive ?

Ive done a couple clutches on Scoobies, a old 'classic' shape and the other month I did a 2004 6spd STi...did that one on my driveway on my back, took well under a full day including numerous breaks. Not difficult to do tbh, the fastenings are wank quality so rust in and the steel dowles that locat the box and block can seize together making it a pig to seperate....also dont forget to with-draw the clutch arm pivot shaft or you have bob hope of getting the box out

The 04 plater I charged 350 plus he supplied his own clutch kit...and he was well chuffed with that....so much so that he now wants me to replace his front discs and pads asap. Dunno what a rebuild generaly costs on a scooby box tho??

its just like a normal box change, it amazes me at all the tech whos wanna rip people off

the front shafts are IN the box so thats piss easy

take it to a beetle specialist if you dont wanna be ripped off as they seem to understand them

OR get the journey up to JC motorsport and book it in for him to work on the car, JC is a honest bloke who as stripped a few scoobies and knows what hes looking at and dont fuck about !!

350 to change a clutch on a scoobie is a fucking rip off and maindealers charges, should be done in under 4 hours like a normal box as its no different to most cars

woods il PM your my number and ill check the local area out to you and see who can do scoobie work as i deal with a few garages round the area

to be fair oranoco the price of parts on scoobies have come down alot, the price of blueprint clutchs are around 80 quid for a scoobie not where BEFORE they was 350 quid from the same place

when cars are new the parts are based on maindealers, when cars get old they have to price parts BASED on the value of the car,,,,, as there comes to a point where nobody would bother to replace it

just like some " tuners " ripp people off with working on cossies,,,, though cossie parts have ALWAYS been overpriced for what they are !
