Default Car running Mega rich, how to check sensors?

Ok, before you say take it to a garage, it's not finished yet so I can't legally drive it.
Plugs have been in the car for about 6 months and the car has been driven about 5 miles and it wouldn't start the other day due to the plugs being totally coked up, and it STINKS of petrol!
I don't wanna fuck a brand new engine obviously so i'd like to get it semi sorted before i can drive it to the garage to get the final MOT prep done. I have to driven the car in and out of the garage a dozen times to work on it, so i can't just leave it till it's time to drive it to a garage as I'm worried it may get worse and it may be a while befor the car is finished, so i need it running better incase i do any lasting damage.
So what do i check, and how do i check it!

I'd go for coolant temperature sensor or map sensor to start with.

Yeah but HOW do you check them i.e from the ECU pins, what are the numbers and the resistance values? The engine has been fully rebuilt and the sensors are new, but I want to check them anyway, i hope it's not a loom problem...

You can check the ECT by unplugging it and letting the ecu go to a default/safe figure.. as far as the actual figures go for testing, my book with them in is at home so could get them tonight for you.

If you've just kept starting and stopping it, then its not unusual to foul the plugs as they arent up to temperature properly and the car runs rich on cold start.

PS

Have you checked the CO adjustment screw is as per your mapper requires it to be?

If so, get a wideband on it, start it up, let it come up to temp, and then see what the AFR is, as it sounds like you are diagnosing it as running rich just cause the plugs are black, when it might not actually be rich in normal use at all.

Its also bad to keep starting and stopping a new set of rings BTW.

Why not go back to a few basics first, ie check the timing, most importantly the PHASE sensor is not out of line, so easy to do and it will overfuel like it's tryimg to drink the oil wells dry.

your continual shunting it in and out of the garage is more than likely your problem push it
to get a liitle more technical these things occur every time you start:- prelimary injection ,crank fuel multiplier, cold start warm up enrichment.
these don't really occur to the same degree when it as at full operating temperature.
stop shunting it
