Default Going for a BMW....

Well thats the plan anyway. Thinking of selling all the ford stuff and the estate. And buying a E30 2.0/2.5. Anyone ever owned one off these beemers?

yes. good solid well built cars if not a little underpowered. which is why i threw away my 2.5 lump and fitted the cosworth.
i heartily recommend www.e30zone.net to find out all you need to know but general consensus is dont bother with the 320 as it has the same 6 pot economy as the 2.5 but similar power of the 4 pot 318 .

just to add my 325 mtech touring came with the uprated mtec suspension, lsd, tech2 kit, leather interior ,all electrics as standard with 80000 miles on a 91 plate and cost me £1200 with a full years mot as a guide to what you can get for your money.

of the top of my head so in no way garuanteed 100% accurate the 1.8 4 pot has 115bhp, the 320 6 pot has 129bhp and the 325 6 pot has 171bhp. the 318is 4 pot 16 valver has about 139bhp iirc. an often made mistake is to confuse all 325's with the 'sport' model. a genuine sport model will be 3 times the price of a general 325i
all tourings(estates) have the uprated 51mm suspension and brake discs all around the same as the 'sports' lesser models use 45mm suspension.

Looks like you know what you are talking about Thanks for the info. Ive looked for some 325 over here but finding a E30 with that engine is hard. 2ltr is a lot better to find here. So think will be a 2.0 then.
