What family car for £6-7k?
Need a new car for the missus and baby and want some ideas
I want diesel and room and not too many miles
She wants a large hatchback, estate or 4x4.
What's out there?
So far I want another audi a4 estate
What else is there?
The no cars are
French, no old cars like an ml or x5, no small hatch like golf, focus, BMW....
Hit me with some ideas.
This is what I've been looking at

If it was me I would go for an audi a4 avant tdi. I love me bmw's and the 530d m sports are spot on but for a car for all year round I would probably go for an audi a4 instead.

For what reason?
If it matters she doesn't drive 3 days a week, she gets the train to work. Then on her 4 days off it's mostly shopping and seeing friends, all local and once a week she does a 40 mile round trip to her mums n back.
I only drive it if we all go out other wise I'm in my car.

volvo v70 d5. very good car and one of the safest around. very good on servicing costs if you find a volvo specialist garage. genuine parts but around 50% of main dealer costs.

I have the older ml and its not been brilliantly reliable, seems ok now after solving a lot of common issues although I've heard the newer model your after is even worse!!!
Lovely looking thing though, but have a good read on t'interweb to see what they suffer from, the canbus system apparently causes a lot of issues.
Quite like the toureg myself or Porsche cayenne although of course no derv in the Porsche. Still if she doesn't do much mileage a petrol may make more sense.
