Common fault on the E46 is the PAS pump

Just don't do what Stu did and drop the pully - its made of plastic and will shatter

Yeah I had a lil look online and it seems it is a comman problem, shall remove the pump Monday, check which of the two it is and order in.
New wheels arrive to Monday for it, best get the pump fitted ASAP. The pump wont like turning big wheels

At least the pump is an easy change - best bet is to buy a BMW genuine one from the dealers - that way if it fails again, it is still under warranty even if you fit it yourself

Is there not two listed as the local parts supplier I called Saturday said there was, not sure if thats for differnt E46 models or just tourers.

Would BMW know from the vehicle reg the exact one.

Or am I best to remove it first and check the numbers?

Thanks for your advice mate much appreciated

Only showing one listed on realoem.com - altho to be fair, it doesn't actually show it on the touring model (shows the pump but doesn't give details) so I checked against the coupe and saloon and they both come back with that pump for 99-01 which is the only years the 328i touring was in production

Whip it off to check the numbers is best - easily done, get the engine tray off the bottom and access is a doddle from under the car - about 30 mins to get the pump off - just make sure you slacken the pully bolts off before taking the belt off otherwise you'll struggle a bit

Bought a set of 19" Csl style wheels

Jeeeez they look a tad large against the car.

Get them fitted tonight and wip the tray off to check this pump number

Wheels transform the car, now de-chrome it on the side for the finishing touch and fit front and rear sport bumpers
