While towing, if any wheels are on the ground, it must be taxed, mot'd and insured....

Only way to do it is on a flatbed.

Front wheels off ground classed as trailer.
A frame is max gross weight 750 kilos.
Need a trailer, and then that depends on weight of tow car, braked or unbraked, and time licence held from.
Or flatbed.

Slightly off subject. an old t reg is not tax exempt. It has to be an old k reg or older.

cheers

Even if a vehicle is tax exempt it still has to display a valid tax disk in the window, only difference is it is issued for free.

sounds daft but check on your licence that you have the category for towing on it.

anyone who passed their test after jan 1997 needs to take a seperate test to be able to tow.

If you passed before '97, then happy days!!

i only know this due starting working for the AA, they realised i didnt have this category so im doing my test tomorrow. What a pain in the arse.

I,ve always towed a car with a straight bar with someone steering the car behind.

I was under the impression that as long as it has legal tyres its then classed as a trailer(using above bar not rope!!)

I am currently trying to figure a way of getting a car home, the best option so far is to tow using a trailer, but i thought you were not allowed to tow trailer at all if you passed your test after Jan 1997 (which i have done). Although looking at the governements website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...les/DG_4022521

From what i understand of that, i can tow a trailer, aslong as the combined mass of the car and trailer does not exceed 3.5 tonnes (and the towed trailer does not weigh over the maximum authorised mass of the vehicle towing the trailer). Is this correct..any towing boffins out there?
