Any one had one? what they like to live with? what goes wrong? been looking at getting a fiesta st but just got an insurance quote on one and its less than £100 quid more to insure an rx8 than the fiesta RWD>FWD seems like a simple decision. Whats peoples thoughts on them?

my sister in law had one for 3 years from new and i loved it. drove it a few times and they really do go well and feel really nice to drive. it felt like a big go kart when the traction was on the off position. i would recommend having a go in one and see if you like it.

one warning, your fuel bill will be horrendous!
they're nice enough to drive, but feel slow tbh. if you start and stop them when cold, they have the tendancy to flood, meaning you (or your garage) will have to remove the plugs, crank the engine, add oil, crank the engine, refit plugs and hopefully it will start
.
another thing, you have to add oil every now and again, as they use it mixed in with the fuel.
i would personally rather have an RX7![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

when you read the owners manual it tells you
when shutting the motor down hold at 4000 rpm them turn off ignition then depress throttle to the floor
if you don't follow them instructions it will flood & you cant start them without removing the fuel pump fuse & spraying deodorant in to the inlet
we must get 10 or 12 a week recovered in asda's own deodorant seems to work best

starter upgrade my arse
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
you're 21? i was driving around in a sapphire cossie by then! an FD would cost you 3k+ to buy, surely the money you save buying the 7 (over the 8) will more than pay for insurance on it?

, they still flood. iirc, the starter upgrade consists of a faster motor and a couple of different trailing plugs? been a couple of years since i worked at mazda though.

my dad was looking at buying one a couple of years ago.
the salesman at mazda told him they are bad on fuel and can be very difficult to start as they flood very easily and 9 times out of 10 they have to be brought in to mazda to get them going again..
not the best sales pitch ever, but at least he was honest.my dad bought a bmw 320 sport diesel instead

There's a load of recalls on them. iirc the water hoses corrode, brakes rust and starter motor upgrade are some. They are very nice cars as I was gonna get one for daily use, but I drive 3miles from mine to my Mum's each day and that would increase risk of the flooding.
If it floods it risks damaging the CAT and thats almost £1000 to replace. This happens because the unburnt petrol sticks in the CAT and blocks it up. They throw alot of petrol in at start up to meet regulations on CAT warm up time iirc.
If you can't afford to run a 350-400hp Cos daily then dont bother with an RX8 as they drink around the same fuel.
Have a look on the RX8 owners club site as there's alot of info on them...

, I would hate to think what my insurace would be on a saff MD the rx8 is coming in a touch over 1100, Does any one know what the difference is between the 220 and the 190 versions other than power is there any mechanical differences or is it just management/mapping?

I was gonna buy one of these cars a couple of years ago, the only thing that put me of was the size of the boot. The car itself (230bhp) was excellent to drive and I cant honestly fault it. It was effortless to go fast and was very stable at speed. If you can afford to run the RX8 but buy a Fiesta ST over this, then you are a tool lol! The fiesta can in no way compete with this car and nor should it. Test drive one, you wont regret it.
Here is a guide to them, but I would also go on the owners club forum for advice from people who own them and use them on a day to day basis.

People get a grip! How can the fiesta st compare against an RX8. If he asked about buying a fiesta st and an escort cosworth nobody would tell him to buy the fiesta!
