Go to the states! This way you can get the whole licence done in about 2 weeks. The cost is just a small fraction of what you pay in the UK, they then issue the licence FOC and then you can send it off to the CAA and they will issue you with a UK one for the licence issue Fee. You will need a medical, do that in the states also lots cheaper.

How do I know all this, well for my sins did the PPL, ATPL and hold an instructors ticket too. I did my PPL here, but if I was doing this for the first time I would go straight to the states. Hope this helps and good luck!

Rad, didnt know the RAF did it cheap? Any details m8?

I am looking at doing this in the furute, though nt so much for PPL, but to get a CPL, probably apply to one of the Pilot Sponsership schemes like CTC Wings.

Cant do anything till after University though, doing my JAR66 at the mo too, b1 licensed aircraft engineer.

Dunno why though, as I want to be a pilot lol

i didnt think you got any sort of free flying with UACs tho? only some AEF flights n stuff which are only worth a few hours towards the PPL?

Jim, UASs (nothing like the ATC) give you about 70hours over 3years and cover all of the RAFs Elementry Flying Training, which would then fast track you onto the Tucano if you persue a career with it.

sounds ominous!!!

back to the flying! sponsorships are far and few between, and usually still require some sort of payment. I ended up forking out about £55,000 and still having to stand on street corners hide from bank manager etc lol still reckon states is alot cheaper. As for the CPL, dont bother go straight to the ATPL easier you can use a calculator! not much difference in the two Global climatology, and a few difference on instruments

Yep! Have done for years, but thought i'd go to uni first and get a degree, backup options and all.

I'll try for a sponsership scheme when I finish uni in 2years (will be 24 though, perhaps too old?). Fingers crossed, else I'll have to borrow those money trees and get off to the states!.

The idea of just going for 3weeks to sunny florida and doing a PPL in the mean time really appeals though!. Dont have the time or money yet though!

I was just thinking that if you got invited to a fancy dress party at Cossieracers place, would be best NOT to go dressed as a Peacock
