ive got to say that my evo 3 is absoluty shit on juice!! i used to think my s2 was bad till i got my evo , but the evo 6 is just a awsome machine my mate who,s on here,s got one with 325 bhp on tap and to drive its just fookin the dogs!!!! makes my evo 3 with just 275 bhp feel realy slow!! the question was asked on MLR whats the best evo out of them all, and the feed back from japan from the mitsubishi technicians was evo 6 but i like the 5 as well..

My evo never got more than 100 miles to a tank - but it wasn't used as a "motorway cruiser" It was quite frankly, TERRIBLE on fuel.
According to AVA when I had mine on the rollers, it went rich the second the car ever sniffed boost, as tony says, as a pre-caution to det.
According to anyone who ever drove behind it, it produced a grey haze of unburnt fuel everywhere it went.
This is the first time I have heard that they have a mega oil pump! - interesting info. Presume it increases reliability when they are running high oil temps and being pushed hard? I think the M3's from the evo onwards have 2.

Trouble is the Evo has a small tank and the level dicks around on it because of the sort of split fuel tank design. It seems to slowly make it's way down to just under half a tank then you'll park it up and the next time you get in it there's feck all juice in it!
I don't find them 'that' bad on fuel, I think (as I said) the small tank makes things seem worse. They aren't that much different to an STI of similar age. I had one with a power FC mapped by Abbey and it was noticeably better on fuel than a standard one I had.
I had my GTi-R alongside my (current) Evo 5 recently and the pulsar was deffinately worse on fuel.
Also if you 5hit yourself at an Evo on fuel... try a modified RX7 as a commuter for a few weeks! You'll soon be glad of the Evo

My Evo 5 is better on petrol than my 2wd Saph, and that was running MSD closed loop.
Saph was on greys and T34,doing 80 miles on £20 of super,
Evo is doing 100 miles on £20 of super, and getting alot less petrol to the ££ these days compared to 2006 when I last used Cosworth!

JamesWRX - that miles per tank is not on cruise. It was only brought out for a warm up, up to the petrol station, flat out, then parked up at home, washed n put away.
Its kinda like saying there is a problem with my current M3 that only gets about 50 miles to a 3/4 tank that is 60 litres at the ring. But its just because its maxxed out all the time.
Either way the fuel on them was terrible!

you reckon you get 100 miles to 20 quid
meaning about 250+ miles out of a full tank at todays rates of 55 quid for 50 litres
i just find it hard to believe you'd get eceonomy like that from an Evo 5 to be honest, even on a run i cant get anywhere near those figures, granted im running more power but even as standard it wasnt achievable.
How slow were you driving to get those results? as surely they werent done as town driving, or even a mix of town n motorway

This is driving to work and back,so have got it in my head not to use the loud pedal much!!!!
If I just went out for a blast/have abit of a race £20 goes nowhere.
This on standard ECU,turbo back Mongoose, perf air filter.

my Evo 6 gets 180miles to a full tank of motorway gentle cruitsing and down to 60 miles to a full tank on spirited weekend 'b' road driving. Its funny that I fill up on a Sunday morning around 11am, go out to the local countryside pub for lunch and fill up again on the way home about 3pm! Love every one of those 60 miles.
