Default Question about bringing stuff back from America.... What will customs say?

I've got this huge list of Goodridge hose fittings that I need to complete the resto on my escos. It comes to about £1400 ish if bought over here.
The thing is i'm off on me holls in Florida in a couple of weeks so i called a
local firm up over there and got a quote for the same bits and with the excahnge rate etc etc i can save nearly 600 sovs

The question is tho where do i stand with customs? i will need an extra suitcase i know that.. but as its not intended for resale will i be ok to bring it back fee free?

Its not like i could fit em all up me arse in a jonny

Take everything out of the packaging then it looks more like you won't be trying to resell them. If they did try to get you for Duty / VAT the items don't have the same value as when you first bought them.

.

Anything brought into the E.U for the first time is liable for Import duty And VAT, even second hand goods.

basicaly, when you get back to the uk airport, you just have to walk through the non eu entry customs, chosing the nothing to declare, or declare bit.

Obviously if you take the nothing to declare bit and get stoped, they pretty much would bend you over a table!

Ive never been stopped over the years probably about 10 non eu flights, going back abit at 18 with 2000 cigs in my case, my arse went abit, i didnt / dont smoke paid for the holiday tho

If your going to do it and risk it, i'd make up a fake invoice now, with all the bits you want to get, find some american tunners website, rip off there logo's detail etc and price it up less than what your allowed per person, used to be about 135quid.

I bought back £900 worth in quip and fuel reg in December. Put them in my hand lugage and walked through no probs

I wondered what the xray machine would make of the reg but the guy did a double take followed by a smile and didnt even open my bag

If they would have asked me I was just going to tell them they were crimbo pressies for my mates

I got stopped when i cam back through from the states in March, apparently you are only allowed goods to the value of !150 or something like that....(i didn't really listen) All i can say is take the advice above and remove ALL evidence that it is new so that means no recipts, packaging or whatever, basically anything that can prove any value or that the item has been purchased there. You could have lived there and be taking it back over for all they can prove...
I got away with it but i was question for about 45mins and they went through everything i had, didgital cameras, ipod docking stations, clothes trainers, laptop.
They let me off because it was obvious what i had was for personal use, if i'd had 10 cameras that would have been a bit of a giveaway...
Oh and they KNEW i was coming, i saw the guy looking at me when i went to collect my bag off the belt, and i noticed it had a reg tag on it, so i knew i was going to get stopped...! I must look dodgy or something, it ALWAYS happens to me! I went to Dublin for a weekend and they questioned me when i arrived home asking what i was doing in the country.....!

knowing ym luck i wud get time in the clink for bringing back car parts

i went snowboarding this year.....

and my mates like playing poker, so we took my poker set
i put all the chips inside my ski boots, as they were in a sep bag, and wanted to split the weight. no probs got through gatwick security scanners etc with no hick-ups and went on holiday.

on the way back i am sitting on the plane waiting to taxi, the door is shut and we start to move... when out the window next to me i see ecurity and police running towards our plane.
the plane then stops, a stairway is put up to the door. the door opens and the police board the plane...

the captain then announces that there will be a short delay while a passenger is removed from the flight!!

WELL, sometimes u just KNOW it's not your day don't you!

as i am frogmarched down to the police station infront of a FULL plane!!!!!

leaving my 4 mates on the flight who are my only life home from the airport which is 200 miles form my house in blighty!!!

ALL because i had put my poker chips in my suitcase on the way back!!

buy them new
get an invoice for cleaning
if you get stopped just say that you sent them over to get cleaned because you had already booked your holidays and you thought you would be able to collect them and take them home with you
if you've got hoses as well just say you brought them along to see if they would fit because you've sent all your stuff over here and didn't think to have any left over
ignorance may be bliss, but

To be fair the stuff I bought back was unpackaged. Just by chance really, I did it to save room in my bag

As Dojj says, get an invoice for something and use it, that could be cleaning, or if you get the guy who sells you it to say they are second hand and cost $150, you'll only need to pay import on that at the worst.

I've got a friend who gets stuff from the states alot and if you explain it to the shop keepers they are normally happy to help a fellow gearhead. my mates had brand new items for $1500 come over saying they are second hand and cost $200.

I brought a turbo, wastegate, boost controller, blow off valve, an ECU, loads of sensors and a wiring loom back from the states at christmas...

Expect them to take swabs from inside your back to check for explosive residue after they've unpacked it and asked you loads of questions...

Other than that - shouldn't be a problem!
