oh right, yes if you rev them that high I can kinda understand. But I thought that solids need reshimming every now and again. Where as Hydaulic lifters go on alot longer in a normal sub 8k rev limit engine.

I like my solids, they sound cool

you can use solid lifters on hydraulic profiles , but not the other way round as brom says , the ramping angles are differant , tbh im having to change to solids due to the hydraulic units giving up after a good hard thrashing !!!

and also , cam profiles are better for the solid units

markk,

Sorry mate you are wrong. You can't use solid lifters with a hydraulic cam profile as a hydraulic profile does not have the gentle acceleration ramps used to take up the tappet clearance due to full time tappet/lobe contact.

It's actually the other way round, you can use a solid cam profile with hydraulic lifters.

it means rarther than having a "floating" type bucket arrangement, where the engine oil takes up the adjustment, the lifters are a solid lump of metal with no moving parts. It means that they dont suffer from "pump-up", which can result in piston to valve connection as when being revved hard the hydrulic follower can fill up with too much oil, hence giving the valve more lift
