ABS seems to be cutting in early with bigger front brakes fitted??
Fitted bigger brakes to the front of my 4x4, drove it for the first time @ the weekend and it "seems" like the ABS is cutting in early, i don't know if there is anything else i should do to the car, or is it simply a case of bolting on the new discs and calipers???
I obviously realise they will make the car stop quicker but, it seems like it's not slowing down enough before the pedal starts juddering like hell.
The thing is, the ABS was fooked when i took the car off the road, but now i think I've fixed it by fitting new sensors, so maybe I'm just imagining it???

you are still braking as you would with the noral stoppers fitted
because the brakes now require less pedal pressure to provide the same stopping power it's just a question of you gettin gused to the pedal again
does it flutter really softly ordoes it kick in really harsly as there are 2 very distinct modes of operation, the soft flutter is normal, the heavy kick back is slamming the anchors on

Ah ok, that's good to know then, I haven't broken anything!
Yeah it just does it softly at low speeds, I was just driving the car 50 yds or so up and down the street to test the brakes so I didn't go very fast, as I've not had it out on the main road yet.
Thanks alot for the help guys, car is very nearly finished, it goes AND stops now!

IIRC yeah they are the same or similar for most Ford 4x4's BUT the 2WD system is different, the ABS control unit in a 4x4 is a specific 4x4 system but I don't know if the sensors are differenet aswell, i couldn't say for sure what you would need, I'd be VERY surprised if your setup was specific to 2 WD cossie though. Always a good thing to know what common parts are used on other cars, saves you paying a premium on "cosworth" stuff.

all the sensors on all the seirra's are the same
as in the fronts are the same and the rears are the same, but you can't put the rears into the fronts as they are a different shape and vice versa
the differences start when you swap between the granada stuff as this has a higher sheidling to stop electrical interferance as the granada's had more electric goddies than the seirra's did
from memory it's soemthing like 104/5 for the sierra and 112 for the granada but i have no idea what the numbers mean
the problems start if you swap them over on the granada's so they shouldn't have any problems the other way
you get the same sensors in the escos but the big difference is teh puilgs that go into teh loom are different, as are the oens on the 92 spec onwards granadas as well
and swapping them is a bit of a no no as i've yet to find someone who's succesfully done this
the other problem is that they rot into the hubs, and when you pull them out they snap, so be warned
