Default Can you solder on glass?

The rear heated screen hasn't worked on my wifes golf since she bought it, I'd checked the normal stuff but couldn't work out why it didn't work. I've just gone to move her car and I noticed one of the wires was hanging off and on closer inspection I noticed the connection must have come away from the screen in the past and been stuck back on with glue

Is it safe to solder it back on or will the heat pop the rear screen?

suppose it depends on the temperature. i've seen somebody welding a roof rack before on top of a defender landy and all it took was one spark to pop the rear screen but thats from a mig welder. if you have VERY neat soldering skills you can try it and cover the surrounding glass area with cardboard and masking tape or something and leave a tiny tiny area for your soldering

I'm just wondering if a wet sponge on the other side of the glass as I solder would help Really don't want to pop the screen.

Soldering on glass is fine. It wont break from the heat you need to join two very small wires

I work in the automotive glass trade and have soldered on glass, and it didn't go pop, but it also didn't solve the problem of the heater elements on the glass not working... But worth a try anyway!

The tiny amount of heat from a soldering iron will not break the screen.
Rough up the area and use PURE SILVER SOLDER, and it will take fine.
But as said if fully comp phone around as companies can kill the xcess dependingh on who you are with and the screen limit, as some are very low, other wise not expensive anyway, and easy to do DIY with a s/h one.

I got the stuff from Maplins but the line still doesn't work.

To remove my first attempt I scraped it off with a knife. Anything else I should try before the third attempt so I get a good connection?

Wipe the line area with VINEGAR, and allow to dry naturally.

I'm not It's a hatchback so I can climb inside the boot if need be and get her to hold the sponge on the outside.

but it still won't be flat will it
you'd still be soldering at an angle upwards rather than downwards

why don't you get get the tape that they flog in places like halfords where you can just put it across and make it look nice and neat?

or just get another screen put in that works

I've just been down Maplins and bought some conductive silver paint, that should do the trick.
