What, if any, leeway on speeding?
#2
If you got done for that, should just be 3 points, 60 quid fine I'd think...
You might not even get done for doing that though... If your speedo showed 65, then I'd not worry at all, as it'll be about 5mph out at that speed, but if it showed 70 (hence you assuming thats 65), I'd think you'll get done...

Not me thats actually been caught, if it was me I'd let 65 off and target the ones badly over the limit, but I didn't know if there was a specific rule they worked to i.e. a percentage over or just book everyone even a couple of miles over

Guideline is actually 10% + 2, many believe it to be 3.
Depends on the day, could be practicing zero tolerance, so 1mph and you've had it.
What car is it?
Speedo driven tend to overead by 10% at all speeds, my abs read old car is 2/3mph over at all speeds, so faster you go bigger the difference.

I've been told the mobile camera was on top of a Skoda estate (unmarked) I suggested it may even have been a surveying vehicle, offending 'speeder' was in a Renault Trafic van

To be honest how many people would know there are different limits for vans? I don't remember being told that when I took my test (ok I didn't read the whole highway code!) personally I wouldn't thought its that common knowledge – no one here knew dual carriageway was 60mph for vans until a driver got stopped for speeding and then was informed vans were different - the branch managers at a parts supplier don't even tell the drivers they employ 'are you aware of the lower speed limits of vans', a lesson learned today
I don’t think the owner of the van that was borrowed from is even aware!

*company name removed so I don't get my arse sued! lol

I agree, people who drive for a living can't be expected to know the speed limits of the vehicles they drive.
Knowing what speed limits to stick to when you drive for a living would be plain stupidity.

Sarcasm I didn't say that. Neither me nor the person who may have got stopped drive for a living, least of all in a non car derived van.
Talking of parts delivery drivers I very much doubt they DO check before commence employment and I know for a fact the employers aren't telling them either - the majority of people are unaware that vans have a lower limit

Ignorance is bliss then, not as if driving is a serious matter or anything.
A simple look in the highway code will tell people, but then again who wants to know how to drive properly these days?

Whats it like being perfect as your posts seem to insinuate!
My point who would KNOW to check? I'd like to call myself intellegent and I wouldn't think to check, I don't drive vans and driving isn't my living, I genuinely have knew probably as not been in the van driving business

ACPO guidelines is 10% plus 2 which is the speed they enforce at i.e. 68 in a 60 (not 69 as commonly beleived)
i had this arguement when i got caught at 46 in a 40, i spoke to the scamera partnership and said about the 10% plus 2 so i thought they should enforce at 47 in a 40, they replied with "we enforce at 10% plus 2 right on that limit which is 46 in a 40"
some constabularies and scamera partnerships choose to ignore this and will prosecute at 1 or 2mph over the limit. but this is a minority. if you went to court (instead of accepting a fixed penalty) over a 1 or 2mph over the limit thing you would probably get off with it - depending on the judge's mood.

Drivers should be familiar with the highway code, as simple as that really.
Most haven't seen one since passing their L test, hence this sort of thing happens, and driving standards are so poor.

Neither do I and none of my posts have insinuated this either. I don't profess to be perfect, we all break the speed limit at times, I mean cars are our hobby thats why we're all here, I enjoy my performance on the track, I am well aware of safe driving and road signs and road useage etc etc. So is the person who was doing 65mph in a 60mph (even though should've been doing 50mph ) shame most of the vans that overtake on B roads in dangerous places doing god knows what speed aren't the same (the thing that really riles me is people overtaking you in a 30mph because your doing the speed limit)
When towing the other week I did check the regulations on speed etc before set off
