Unhappy One rather bent pink pug!

What a weekend!

we finiished off prepping the car on thursday night, up bright and early trhe next day ready for a 5 hour plus drive over to manby showground in linconshire for the first round of the 205 1400 challenge. We arrived at about half 5, unloaded and went straight to scrutineering and noise check, which she flew through. we signed on and decided to pitch the tent. this is where it starts to go wrong
the weather this weekend... not great couple that with a big open airfield not far from the coast and you have near gale force winds!!!
4 of us managed to get the tent up, tied to the side of the transit! got piss wet through in the process, and then decided to sleep in cars anyway as the tent didn'tlook like it was going to last the night
went aand got a chinease and a swift strongbow and an early (but very uncumfortable!) night

up at half 6 saturday morning to drop the tent and get the transit back into the service area, final check over, re-fuel and decide on some tyre pressures and then out at 10.07 for the first stage we put in a respectable time, 4 seconds behing our closest rival, which wasnt bad considering our car kept jumping out of 2nd gear half way through chicanes!!! and we are running standard front suspension, the other lad is running billies.

2nd stage:
started out well, flying in fact
then we got overtaken by a 1.9?? gti down one of the straights, who promptly spun infront of us!!

we dodged past him and carried on down the back straight whith him in hot persuit, through the the 10inch deep water splash round a 90 right and 90 left, although we took these corners so well that we ended up carrying a lot more speed that we anticipated into the next chicane, drove staight over a truck tyre at 55-60mph whicyh sent us up into the air, landing on the roof, then sliding down the concrete for a bit on the drivers side then hitting the grass, flipping again and ending up on the roof in the middle of the field
which resulted in this:

reshell and a new cage i think now!!! 5 weeks till the next round

No they dont!!! a few people swapped to mud tyres and said braking/cornering was far better, we only had tarmac and non yoko mud tyres with us, and as they sponsor the challange we have to use yoko tyres at all times

I used to battle with Ian (Stanny) back in the early 90's when he had is 1600cc Sunbeam. Still keep my eyes on the Pug scene as I used to rally a Gp A one a while back.5 weeks will be plenty midnight oil burning sessions then - good luck !!

thanks mate we will need it!!!
Think we might be buying a ready caged shell from darky at welsh rally developments, although the whole car may be going there for him to do the work as he has offered to do it at a VERY reasonable price
