Default advice on spraying floorpans

my floorpans are a bit messy and need tidying up. the paint is very messy and uneven under the carpet. On passenger side there has been a plate welded but welds are quite uneven. Whats the best thing to do grind the welds down until they are level and using some sort of paint stripper and scrape old original paint off. then whats the next step clean all floors, etch primer or some sort of rust proof, paint primer, then paint in whatever colour?

just grind the welds down but make sure you dont do it to much as the plate will fall out..

but yer just grind it down, then could use paint stripper or just sand it all down so its nice and even, clean all the dust away, primer it and spray it

You're having a giraffe? If someone has welded a plate so bad that when you grind down the welds, it falls out, they should never be allowed near a welder again. You should be able to grind it completely flat and have no risk whatsoever of it falling out.

yes grind it flat but not any further (maybe thinking you could put a skim of filler on etc), just saying be careful because if you do you will obviously weaken it, and when your putting your weight on it when getting in/out the car it will go threw after time...

Nope. You can grind it lower and put filler on if you want. If welded properly, then the weld goes all the way through and is strong as the section being welded
