They came in 3 models as far as I know, 2.0 16v, 1.8 8v G60 & 2.9 VR6. Low mileage & late 95/96 cars hold good money & still fetch £6K upwards. I know the VR6 came with Leather as an option not sure about the others. I'd go for a VR6 as I had one for nearly a year & they do go well & sound. The VR6 are 190 Bhp, not sure about the G60 or 16V. Great cars but they are getting on like the RS's of that time. Hold their money well if looked after.I'd have another one.

Also have a look on here for anything you might want to know. Used this site when I had mine.

I drove a new VR6 way back when and loved it. To me, it was like an updated, pumped-up version of my original VW Scirocco, before they brought out the poofy-looking one!

Supposedly VW killed the Corrado because it couldn't be adapted for airbags etc.

There's a new Scirocco due later this year and I'm getting excited already.

There is also a storm version of the VR6 in limited colours and slightly different spec. although more expensive than non storm versions they hold their value well if reasonable mileage.

VR6 would be my choice, 190bhp excellent strong engines, add a supercharger and you're looking at 300-340bhp, stock internals good for 400ish.

For a storm expect to pay circa £5k+, other VR6's can be had for cheaper with good mileage.

make sure the timing chains have been done if aproaching 100k, you can hear a slight rattle if you hold the revs at about 1200rpm. budget £500-£600 if they need doing. engines are good for over 200k if well looked after.

things that usually go wrong are:
active rear spoiler not going up - easy enough to fix
sunroof tilts but does not slide - pretty easy fix
door handles - not to bad to fix.

hope that helps mate.

Matt.

looked well nice that
I just moved over to VW 3 weeks ago when i sold my Escort GTi, its done almost twice the mileage my Escort had and this Golf still feels tight and well built, alot quicker than the Escort aswell (150bhp standard 2.0 16v, bit more with the mods )

Mine only had 73k on it when I sold it on. Was a lovely car and really grunty with the conversion. But I enjoyed the RST more. They are solid, very well built cars and can handle millage well if loked after. I'd recomment one to anyone

Used to own a VR6 in dragon green. Full leather etc, and dare I say it, it was an auto. I've had a few cars in my time and wish I still had this one (it got knicked and was never seen again).

Agree with that, especially with a Stainless & Filter. Mine was lowered on Eibachs which made it a roller skate.
