Unhappy are cossie baby boards universal? non starting problem, mapping issue???

i have just changed engines in my car
the only thing different from my last setup is cams and ported head.
i still have the same injectors, map sensor......

my ecu is a 4x4 l8 green (lambda)
i dont know the make of the board or chip but they were out of another 4x4 l8 red top ecu (non lambda) that ran this setup.

i took the baby board and chip (unknown make but setup for this engine)
and swapped it with my babyboard and chip, my baby board was a std ford one.

i did this as i was told the other board was better than the std 1 i had.

now the car wont start, ive checked everything and all is as it should be.
all timed up correctly, got fuel through the injectors, got spark at plugs, all connected and wired up properly, checked sensors work,

it coughs like its gunna fire up but doesnt.

so i changed the injectors and map sensor for std, and fitted a std chip, now the car doesnt even splutter, then i put the other chip on and its even closer to starting than before, but still not quite.

its almost as if its being flooded or the timing is very slightly out.

could the chip/babyboard cause this?
and could it be that the board is from a non lambda ecu but now fitted to a lambda enabled 1?
if i was to get a std ford board again do you think this would work?

it worked the other way round, eg my std board and stage 3 chip from the green top ecu went in the red top ecu and worked.

any board/chip combination should run - what you can't do is swap chips onto another babyboard

where have you plugged the babyboard into?

you can swap chips on different boards.
before i changed the boards i did just chasnge the chips and the other car ran fine.

its just mine wont start at all.

the board only plugs in to one place and ive left the 4 spare pins to the end nearest the case

have you correctly plugged the baby board onto the ecu connector
there are less pins on the baby board connector than on the ecu plug?

have you tried putting your old babyboard back in?

is all your connectors correctly plugged in EG: CPS, TPS, MAP, Knock, Phase

in the past i have had the Knock sensor, and CPS plugged in the wrong way round

If it's a protection board, then it's NOT a case of any chip will work (fully/properly) with any board - even if the 'other' board is supposedly compatible or a copy of another type of board.

Are there no markings at all on the 'new' baby board or chip?

all it says on the board is rom/ram issue number 3

and thats it.

it is plugged in correctly, and all the sensors are in and working.
i think im going to have to trailer it to get setup.

rom rm issue 3 is a pectel ID unfortunately the genuine pectel boards were copied and very badly a genuine pectel encryption board should say pectel on it . you could send us the ecu and we will test it for you
