Sounds good Rob, quite fancy a go in a DSG.
Brownmike its not actually an "auto" though. nothing about learning to drive either. With DSG 0-60 times being quicker, there maybe something innit

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I work at a VW/Audi/Porsche dealership in New Zealand......... DSG is easily the best auto/tiptronic/smg style box I have drove. I had a go in an SMG M6 and the box was bloody terrible in my opinion. The change is faster than any driver could do in manual and I don't care what anyone says.........
However in my opinion the driving style still dictates what to have...... if you(or your missus) are going to drive everyday in stop start traffic and do a fair amount of miles with some weekend fun then DSG would be great. If it is going to be tucked up and come out for weekends only and the odd trackday I think I would personally have manual, to me there is some things you can do with a clutch pedal that you can't without
As for car choice, R32 is VERY overrated, I have driven dozens and always expect more than they give. Standard GTi is a great car, the one to get though is the Edition 30, they essentially have a detuned S3 engine and with a bit of tweaking are over 300bhp, where as a tuned GTi is in the 260 region.
Go to dealership and have a drive of both Rhys
Hope that helps.

Thanks Barry! Just the write up i wanted. the car would be an everyday user, if i were to have a Golf it would only be a DSG as i quite fancy the ability to be able to put it in auto for relax mode ie back and forth work. And then for a little blast able to blip through the gears.
Think i best pop down the dealers the try one. Edn 30 is little bit price for me as i dont really want to spend that much and they hold a healthy premium.
