Engine will fit sraight in (with the right mountings), but the T5 box needs a large tunnel to be fitted.

Depends if you want to do it 'properly'!

A decent rear atlas axle with ZF diff, proper half shafts, floating hubs etc will set you back around 4k+, to get rid of the leaf springs you need to fit suspension turrets to the rear to take coilovers, then you need to hold the axle in place so fitting a 4 link kit and a Watts linkage at the back, and a large diff tunnel so you can lower it properly. The actual parts there are fairly cheap (under 1k) but fitting is a lot of work (i.e. cutting into the floor pan for everything, welding and some fabriacation is always required - could probably spend well over 1k getting all that done.

Then you need proper alloy fuel tanks all the pump setups etc. Brakes you need to run a proper pedal box as a normal servo won't fit due to the turbo/exhaust. Custom rad/intercooler , then all wiring need to be changed pretty much etc etc..

A lot of work and nothing is ever simple on them!! Trust me!!

It's all tried and tested as the old works rally boys used the same stuff apart from the engine and box, but good second hand parts are a rare find.

There is a lot of info to be had on www.turbosport.co.uk - it's probably the best site going for RWD Escort info! Search the forum, should have plenty of links to info!

a fully floating atlas shouldn't cost that much benn, you don't need the 'fully floating' jobbie anyway - and you can stick to leafs there are several VERY fast leaf sprung Cossie powered Mk1 and 2s both in drag racing / street car and also in circuit racing circles.
If you wanna do it properly and are starting from scratch, budget around £8000 mate.

Ben, speaking to RACE and Dingy they were saying he is having problems with his rear axle at the hubs due to running APs on the back without floating hubs.. Can't remember exactly what but iot keeps breaking/loosening something on the hub se he's got to upgrade now anyway! So do it once do it right hey

And the RACE axles cost upto 5k!

Hmmmm, I know a few Ford Saloon Car Championship front runners that aren't having any problems with semi floaters... and they're lasting a season or two and beating 3-drs, Saffs and all sorts. (And one of them's on leafs - madness!). Anyways... horses for courses! Mine won't be running a fully floating axle so hopefully we'll see the proof of my pudding!

A friend of mine raced in the Street Racers Series this year and last using a english axle and leaf springs. He's running a cossie at around 330bhp, and beat escorts with similar and sometimes more power and fancy rear end set ups. If it aint broke mate.......

if you are talking about davi ,he has an atlas with an "andy robinson race car"

ladder bar set up ,bloody quick all the same

if you want to run a cossie powered mk1 or 2 escort ,the cheapest way is to buy

one already done,eg,a mate of mine has a droop snoot mk2 rs2k ,400 bhp cossie

linked, caged road car, wants 10 k for it ,way cheaper than the price of the build !

Puddy-I am talking about davi's car, but he still ran an 11.67 on leaf springs this year, and that was with standard half shafts too.

Is it baz who's escort is up for sale?

Leaf springs can be fine for drag though - The Harris mk1's were lifting the front wheels at the pod on 2ltr pinto's with leaf springs, but track and drag doesn't always require the same suspension settings!! I'm sure they can be made to handle on track by changing the leaf's etc too, but IMO coilovers offer so many more setup options!

I think I know the one you mean, it's got tsw wheels hasnt it?

Davi's not doing too bad, he had a problem going up to the pod for the last street racer which was a real shame as he was in with a shout of winning the series. Just about to start a rebuild=more boost and the magical 10's(well you can all but hope!) He's put a cossie turbo in his beige mk2 estate too-its a right sleeper.

So are you going to be giving Mick Rogers a run for his money this year-heard he's made a few 'mods'to the cortina!!!

Phil - at £250 a day plus expenses mate I'd chase the snapping! Also, I know a guy in the Ford Saloon Car Champs who runs leafs... and a pinto... and beats Grp A cars (Cossies etc. and other Mk1s/ 2s with coilovers and Watts linked etc.) - so a leaf sprung car CAN handle VERY well... agree about the adjustablity but once it's set up leave it - like matey says if it ain't broke!
Rudey - maybe mate!
