the best price ive come across so far just for the labour is 500pound, what engine would be best to buy??

i would look at buying a whole car for the conversion and just leaving the donor and my car at the place etc...

what car is best for the conversion? as for price and also power (bhp)

cheers

mk5 Xr3i 130 donor is simplest and probly best donor. I could do it for 500 too. I've done a few now.

Not being funny mate but how long do you think these things take?? Most garages charge £30 an hour ( and thats a cheap one!), so 16 hours and there is your £500..... I think you will struggle to find anywhere that will do it for that, let alone less... Why not rip it all out yourself, it's dead easy and will save your £££...

£500 is CHEAP for the ammount of work and messing about that has to be done with a n engine conversion!

Put it this way i have SREVICED a customers car today with no additional work carried out and the bill was £680.

labour is 46.50 at our garage lol, wouldnt be so bad if it was an in out job like cvh to cvh etc but you gotta do all the little shit bits loom etc and you need a 5 speed box jay so that would be extra aswell as all the other little trick bits!! howz your hol lol you slag!!??

£500 sounds fair for a drive in drive out conversion. Baring in mind messing around with loom, engine mount, adapting the different sized water pipes etc... It all takes time!

sourcing and fitting the right flywheel, cutting and shutting the exhaust, temp guage, alternator belts, you get your moneys worth.

It's more the faffing around and getting everything tidy that takes the time. You want it to look like it's supposed to be there and be reliable, not wiring all over the shop and hitting the exhaust off everything cos they did it quick to cut down on labour time...

My donor cost 300 and still had 10 months mot on it full history etc. You should be able to find a good runner with a shitty body for that if you look around a bit.

£500 is not bad for labour but as everyone else says its the pissing about that takes the time when we did my first one it took 12 hours stright from xr3i to zetec and that was drive in drive out lol.

Not a great deal of point buying a donor car if you want to go 2.0 as you will have to buy a mondeo then an escort so you have the right sump oil pickup and flywheel.

Then you got the addition of a new clutch water pump alternator bracket the list soon adds up and so does the cost then you should really uprate the brakes to go with it too.

its sort of a straight forward job

but £500 just for labour is a bargain

dont forget that if you go 2.0 route you need 1.8 parts aswell

easiest is 1.8 130 bhp model engine from a xr3i or something

sexr3i helped me do mine and he knows them inside out

but it takes time to do it correct, flywheels need machining once you find the correct flywheel
loads of little fabrication bits aswell like engibe mounts, radiators, water pipes etc

get it doen by someone who has done them before and knows what there doing

and ecus dont stay in engine bays

i payed 500 for a efi turbo conversion on my mk4 bonus, and then another grand for them to cource all the parts and for a drive in drive out conversion, took them just over 2 days to complete, i had a few little miss haps within a week later but he did sort them out sort of...it had a kink in the fuel pipe so didnt fill up properly, actuator was letting it boost too much!! as it was my first turbo etc i didnt know much at all, so when i come out from the place i just couldnt wait to put my foot down, and when i did it shot up to 18psi and then chucked me up the dash as the ecu was standard but as it kept letting me boost this much it nakerd the ecu, so i took it back they set it to around 8psi but it was to late as this made the turbo let go...and then not long after that the cam started knocking but when i had the conversion done he assured me it was a recon turbo and a new cam!

and when i took it back to him about a week later he just said well...a cams 120 and so much for fitting and then the turbo is this much etc...

thats the place that can do it for 500!

how much easier would it be to go for the 1.8 xr3i engine?

also i dont want to put tbs on it or nothing, but what else could i do just to free abit more power from it? what bhp could i get from a few little bits (manifold, exhaust, filter and bigger throttle body)

And after all that you want to take it back there when its quite apparent that it generally costs more than £500

Do yourself a favour chap, stick the money in an ISA and wait till you can afford a faster car out the box

my dad had a 1.6 zetec put into his estate, supplied and fitted my Ford dealer it was about £1200.

Told our local non dealer garage he said he couldnt have done it any cheaper than that really

you need 130 bhp engine and with little mods like exhaust fillter you will not push more than 145 ish it goes a lot better because you get rid of a lot of restrictions with cat ect
1.8 xr3 or rs 1800 would be bit easier but only because you wont after sorce 1.8 parts for 2.l conversion

and this the one with the bodge wiring if i remember seeing correctly

ecu stuck in egine bay when there not water proof,

the zetec and efi cvh need to be inside the car in a dry place and not stuck on the inner wing for everything to get to them

if you want to take it back to that garage to rip you off again then sound

or you could contact some people off here you have offeeed to help and have done the conversion before and it wil be a better job

why not go back to the garage and ask them whats involved for £500, get them to list you a quote of wheat they are going to do and post it up to see if they do actually know what there doing, as i bet there will be some major things missed by them
