to be honest, i would rather keep the 500 and do the conversion myself as people are still willing to help me along the way, and i will learn how to do it in the future for next time...
i do think 500 is cheap for the conversion, i didnt say it wasnt...but as i said above if people are willing to help me along the way when im doing the conversion myself then things shouldnt be any different...

do it yourself mate if youre in no rush, you can plod along with it then, and its not too hard a conversion once you get your head around it. i didnt do my car but ive helped along with others and gotta say its only the loom that causes probs, and theres wiring diagrams on what to do all over the net.
people go on about having to change sump, flywheel etc, 9 times out of 10 you have to swap a few bits over when swapping an engine anyway, even when its the same one.
and personally a grand budget is well easy if you do some work yourself, ive bought new engine, loads of turbo conversion parts, interior, wheels, paint, suspension etc for mine and ive tottted it up and it owes me right now, 1200 quid. bet you could pull a donor car from ebay for about 100 quid, or go to a scrappy and ask to buy a whole car, you take it, rip out all you want then weigh the bare shell in later

exactly...
well its not a case of im in a rush to do it...more like how much i want it done lol....
well hopefully im going to get the 1.3 out the weekend with a hand from a mate of mine, once ive cleaned all the bay up readi for the new engine, il start putting abit of cash to one side and look about, well i know a owner of a scrap yard so he would probs give me a donor car for only a small fee...
your only in wolvo aswell i see...and as you know how to do a zetec conversion....... lol only joking mate...
as ive said before though i could easily get one fitted and the car owe me alot less than a grand.....ive got 550 to play with anyway..should easily keep it in budget....

what sort of power could i get from a 1.8 silver top engine (whats a escort lx or ghia? 105ps or 115ps)
with 4-2-1 manifold/exhaust and air filter?
could i change the cams to 130ps ones from the xr3i? or change the throttle body?
whats things could i change just to get abit more power from it?
also when ive sourced a donor car, i think im going to replace the conrod bolts for arp products..just for the safe factor...

you might find you need a tank and pump from a fuel injection model too. Think 1300's don't have the swirl pot and have the little mechanical pump driven off the cam?
lx and ghia are 105spec, gti is 115 and xr3i is 130 if fitted with rear disks.
If you're gona put 130 spec bits on it, get the cams, throttle body and ecu together. You might need the fuel pressure reg too (or fse valve) or you'll have a little flat spot.
Basic mods of free flowing filter and exhaust (inc decat etc) should see 145+ bhp.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
unless he is with a specialist like brentacre or flux etc and over 21 it's gonna be very very hard, the yearly premium 3rd party will be more than the car cost to build...
if you want a fun track car, why not get a mk2 xr2 or something, with a few suspension tweeks etc they are great fun, i did my first few track days in one of these and could not recommend it more

same as a 105bhp but same to fit as a 130bhp? i thought the 130 bhp was harder to fit (well change a few more things) or on the 130bhp (xr3i) i have to change the clutch dont i so it will accept a cvh gearbox?

FORGET THE ESCORT...if you're on a budget then just get a nippy car and strip it! then enjoy your track action.
summat like this would be ideal....take a couple of hours to strip the insides and bobs your uncle!! TRACK CAR DONE!

forget the 130 bits for the time being tho, just get the engine fitted and running first.

15K+ Super Poster!!
How much have they quoted you on insurance? You need to check that before u do anything.
You are asking questions which shows clearly u haven't got a clue, and u want to do it yourself! And of course it's "the labour that costs" welcome to planet earth.

even your mum may find it hard getting a good deal or even finding a policy at all that allows a roll cage and an engine conversion. Some insurance companys wont even allow an induction kit. and the type of policy that will allow the cage etc etc may not be hot on having you as a driver on it 2. you could prob get Ł500 for your car as it is. The conversion will cost you about Ł1000 realistically, becuase you will be paying someone to do most of the labour and theirs always parts you need etc etc etc. so you could spend all this money on a mk4 escort and pay the same again for insurance, or get a car that is pretty quick in the first place (a 1.8 zetec in a mk4 escort wont be as fast as you prob hope)
get a mk3 fiesta rs1800 or an xr2 or something with the power etc in the first place all done and dusted and wont be a pain to insure. Seriously get the insurance homework done. What happens if you do the conversion then phone about and cant get covered??? Or the only cover you get is Ł1500 ??? surely half an hour of phone calls will put your mind at rest.

no you don't 105spec zetec flywheel is fine, cvh flywheel needs modding.
to fit the zetec you will still need a Efi Cvh flywheel and clutch.
forget the 130 bits for the time being tho, just get the engine fitted and running first.
