Default Knackered MAF and Lambda symptoms

Would these be typical symptoms of a knackered air flow meter and/or lambda sensor?

Low MPG
Rough idling/revs hunting
Sometimes stalls when idling
Running rich, especially when cold
Very smelly after a run(not always)

Could be the MAF, have you unplugged it and see what it does?

hi there, could be 1 of the above,i would put car on gas analyzer,c what co its running, could have air leak as u would get same symptoms,i would test lambda with multimeter, voltage from sensor should switch from around 150mv to 600mv approx.on gas analyzer you would identify air leak as lambda reading would bewell below the 1.000 perfect lambda, exhaust leak etc would also cause lambda to be low, worth checking i would say.

Well if you MAF is playing up and you are overfuelling then that will quickly kill the lamda sensor anyway.

Good call. When the MAF went on mine, removing the MAF didn't change the way the car ran i.e. very hard to start, when it did start it ran too rich and soon fouled up the plugs which soon stalled it. Make sure you clean your plugs or even get new one's.

Changed the MAF and all ok.

hot wire MAFs get dirty inside, especially if you have an aftermarket filter. So,as above, try it unplugged. If it runs better clean the inside with carb cleaner and the electrical connection and try again.

Ive not tried it with the maf disconnected yet, but have noticed that when the car is running from cold it idles smoothly as it should, but when warmed up after a run it idles rough and hunts alot or stalls
