Seeing cfosters thread reminded me to post this one
A mate and mine want to learn how to ski somewhere in europe in the middle of the year, but he has been told that this won't be possible. Is that true?
Are there any good websites to go on?
Thanks for any help

You can go to resorts in the summer as well, pretty much anywhere with a glacier (Tignes in France, Saas Fee in Switzerland, Hintertux in Austria)
But you may find it easier to learn on the better snow in Feb/March instead!

Does anyone know if there will be anywhere in Europe with snow around September time?
As me the missus and another couple are going to be doing the Scally Rally this year and fancied doing some snowboarding while we are in Europe if possible

PassionFord Post Whore!!
I'd have thought you'd be limited due to the climate during the summer. Not sure what the US is like during that time of year. I remember going to Chamonix in April one year at the end of the season and the snow was hard and horrible!!!

as said, there are several glaciers that have snow year round that can be skied on (for a few more years until they melt), but it won't be cheap and is not as easy as fresh snow in winter. for a beginner, i would recomend learning in a proper winter resort with good facilities and a ski school
but definately having some lessons in a snowdome in the uk first is a good idea - don't bother with dry slopes except for perhaps the very first steps of learning how to put boot/skis on etc

yeah la plagne is the dogs i learnt to ski there went there my first three years. so many runs and a glacier with a good 7 or 8 runs all through the year. deffo would not learn to ski on that slushy stuff in september on a glacier. you said not the next couple of months but all of april and early may is normally good. i went my third year to la plagne at the end of april in easter holidays and the snow conditions were perfect. lovely hot sunny day skiing in a t shirt in the afternoons and then chucked it down with snow at night every night with the april showers.im now going to the three vallees which is great so many runs think its europes largest ski area with frances hardest black. if you go to val thorens u can ski there quite late as its well high and that has a glacier too not to mention a like snow/ ice circuit thing with these weird looking rear wheel drive buggies alot of fun
