its the blue windows screen that comes up not the full blue error screen, just has a popup box saying the computer has been restarted before installation was complete or an error has occured before installation is complete, press ok to restart installation. You press ok and it reboots, gets to the blue screen and box pops up again. its a new hp laptop and has no cds, says to make backup cd when windows begins but i never got that far!!

there might be a way round it, did it come with a windows back up disc. if it did then you should be able to do it by pressing f2 when it begins then reinstall windows. you wont lose anything as you havent used it. if you have the disc let me know and il send you a pm telling you how to do it

most of them have the reinstall data on a small partition on the hard drive that you access on boot up by pressing an "F" key - it depends on the manufacturer as to what "F" key it is - it will be in the documentation.

Most new laptops/PC's these days come with a recovery partition that will let you format without a disk and it's just a case of pressing F8 or the likes on start up to get the recovery process going.

Restore PC to original condition with the Recovery Manager if Windows Vista cannot be accessed
If the PC cannot access Windows, use Recovery Manager to restore the hard drive by following the steps below.
Press F11 on the keyboard immediately while the computer is starting up. The HP Backup and Recovery Manager window will appear.
If the Recovery Manager can access the hard drive it displays a prompt to backup up your user files before continuing the recovery. If it cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, the Recovery Manager starts recovering the hard drive to its original condition.
