Had some trouble with the car a little while ago with it being down on power, overboosting like a pig and being crap on fuel. After no fault codes been found on Vagcom I resorted to looking at things the old fashioned way and found one very black spark plug. I changed the plugs and the N75 valve as I had been told these were problematic. This half cured things and teh car returned to running .8 bar and holding .6 but was still smoking like a chimmney. It was suggested I ran a heavy duty fuel system an dinjector cleaner through which I did and voila I was seeing 400 miles on a tank and the car was a lot smoother although still seemed down on power.

Tonight the sodding thing decided to start over boosting like a pig again and lurching like it's hit over boost in third at about .6bar.

In short I've now got the right fucking hump and am starting to wonder whether the Superchip may be the cause of some of the problems. Any help or suggestions would be really good as I have a car I can't boot which kind of defeats the point of trying to get a few more ponies from it.

a real comon thing on these is the engine temp sensor is it a pig hot starting?

although it could be unrelated to your brobs it could possibly contribute

Starts and runs good as gold mate. Just plays up like a woman on blob as soon as you start to squeeze the throttle.

The other night coming back from my Dad's I put my foot to the carpet in 4th doing about 70ish and the boost came up but the car had no power and didn't pick up, just felt like it was being held back

Have you checked all the hoses? The overbraided vac hoses perish really bad over time and just fall apart, the rest of the rubber hoses aint much better either.

Could be a fucked coilpack?

If the car is DBWS, TBA in vagcom is under engine > meas blocks > block 060 > switch to basic settings for 60 secs... or just pop the bonnet, open the drivers door and turn the ign on. TB will click and whine for a 15-20 secs.

Do these have MAFs like TDIs as these commonly are a problem causing similar symptoms!!!

AFMs are a big problem, amongst other things. Mine had went through 2 of them and that was a standard A3 quattro. Total buckets of shite as far as I'm concerned.

The MAF was investigated when the car played up the first time an nothing was found to be wrong.

All hoses checked and then double checked

Might try and swap the recirc valve back to the standard one to see if that makes any difference to things. (stabbing in the dark now).

Drove like a big bag of crap on my way to work this morning so I've now got the hump with it.

First thing to give us bother since we got it last March though I spose.

When you say they 'investigated' the MAF….what exactly did this entail because sometimes VAG com doesn't even detect faults with these - its just a case of replacing it then seeing if this makes a difference - definitely worth doing anyway if you haven't already just for peace of mind!!

Log engine block 002 in vagcom, check the g/s value against what it should be pulling, turbo dependant.

I still put money on being a coilpack about to shit itself.

Can a coil pack and MAF really cause the boost spike problems that I'm suffering?

Think I should have stuck to my Fords.

Will get price on MAF as already have price on coilpacks. Are patern packs ok or should I use gen VAG?

this sounds like the common problem in remapped VAG T engines.

We're trying to work on a cure on the Briskoda forum.

ECP do geniune bosch MAF's for 80 quid exchange, VAG/bosch is the same thing and is about 180 quid new.

I'm running the hitatchi bolt down coilpacks that ECP stock and haven't had one fail in 18 months, bosch VAG part lasted about 4 before dying. The hitatchi seem to be coil pack of choice though.

I've put 50k on my 1.8t since its been remapped, its @ 120k now. Apart from 1 MAF, 1 MAP and a set of original coil's dying @ 80k, its been perfect. The problems are usually down to the maintanece of the whole car than fault components.

Anybody recomend a VAG specialist in or around Hertfordshire? Can't afford to get it sorted but I can even less afford to twat the engine

Thanks for teh PM I have food for thought so will have a tinker.

Car has always been maintained regardless of cost. If it needs something it gets it and it was serviced a few weeks before I got it and I serviced it again just before Christmas.

got the same problem with my chippped golf, drinks fuel.

get about 40-50 miles to £10 and thats sensible driving

sounds like a problem with the map.

i mapped my Octavia vRS and i get at least 90 miles to £10.

I get about 50 miles to a tenner, 220 to the tank @ £45 a tank usually.

Thats city driving though, on a run i can get about 320 to a tank @ 60-70mph.

Maybe you are, but after 120k of abuse and still going strong I doubt theres much wrong with my 25mpg lol

i get in excess of 400 miles at 60-70 on a motorway.

Update

After spending a morning in Leighton Buzzard with a company called VAGtech I am happy to reprt their guys found a broken wire to the MAF which immediately improved things and shock horror the MAF does appear to be the cause of my problems. Sorting a new one wil have to wait until payday but at least the car can be driven weithout feeling like it's going to explode when I tickle the throttle

Very plesed the chip turned out to be problem free as most people just told me it was the chip before anything was even looked at.

Well still need to sort a new MAF for it to sort it properly but I'm 100 times better off than I was this morning.

Cheap as chips to diagnose, they did it for free. No catches or anything can't fault them at all.
